Right now my hair is two different colors. Its past shoulder lenth and curly like in the avatar. The top half is brown and the lower half is black. Once colored black , it dryed out my hair and I find its hard to get it out. I let it grow out on top and its in better condition there. Should I do it black , knowing I'll have to maintain it or should I lighten the ends?

I would get a 2 color weave. By a professional of course. Have black put into the brown and vice versa. You shouldn't try this at home. This way will allow you to grow it out to an all brown color. You are right about the black color and getting it out...it's the most difficult and straw hair will result if you do try to get it out.

You can always go to the salon and ask for the black part to be "de-coloured". I dyed my hair black a while ago and when I wanted it to be lighter the stylist had to take most of the colour out with a product. It looked reddish brown after that process! Now as you can see from my Avatar, I'm blonde lol.. lightening takes patience once you go dark. Good luck!

It depends on what color you would really like to have the black or the brown. If you don't want the black and the up keep that it will take. Go to a salon and have a professional and have them dye your hair back to it's natural color. If you try to do it yourself you could end up with a mess, because black is a very hard color to work with. And you could check around and compare what different salons charge. It is usually between $35.00 to $85.00 depending on the area you live in.
I hope this helps.

put the bottom back to your natural color and try and keep it healthy for a while. When you color your hair, it effects your roots by about 2 shades, depending on the color you used. This is going to have to grow out. it takes a few months though. If you want your natural color back, have a professional color your hair to as natural as they can get it. Then just wait. Ask them for a conditioner for your hair that will repair it, this way you are not hurting the top again. good luck. I got this info from my friend who is a hairdresser. he owns his own salon here in Denver. He is great.

just let it grow out the way you've been doing and keep trimming it it off. Even if you have the black removed from the bottom there is no way the color will be even and your hair will be damaged. Do yourself a huge favor and leave it alone. Seriously.

you can pre-lighten your hair where the black is with bleach leave it on long enough just to get the black out don't go any lighter then that (only pre-lighten if you don't have bleach on your hair previously) then take the color you want and apply it like normal.

Let all the colour grow out - then just get higlights through - looks natural and is easier to maintain!

It depends on which looks better and if you are willing to maintain.. I have mousy brown hair dyes platinum blond, and to keep it looking right i have to have my roots done every 2 weeks. yours wouldn't be that bad, but would still require work! Good Luck!!!

I think you should lighten it up, cause if you keep dying it black, and the more chemicals you put in your hair, your going to end up damaging your hair really bad..

black hair dye is hard to take out as you may know and color cant take out color..i suggest you cut your lower half in portions as your hair grows out of the color..or you can go to a salon and have them bleach it out..the proffesionals always know what to do..
