SIMPLY BECAUSE BABY PIGEONS DONT HAVE FEATHERS ON THEIR WINGS TO HELP THEM FLY.
10 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WITH BREEDING PIGEONS. BABY PIGEON GET FED BY HIS PARENTS FOR AT LEAST 3 TO FOUR WEEKS TILL THEY ARE READY TO FLY OUT.
MAKE SURE ALWAYS YOUR CAGE GATE IS LOCKED AWAY FROM DOGS AND CATS ,AS SOMETIMES THE BABIES DECIDE TO WALK A BIT AND MIGHT BE CAUGHT BY A CAT OR DOG,MIND YOU DOGS DONT EAT THEM ,THEY PLAY WITH THEM AND ROLL OVER TILL THEY SUFFOCATE THEM BUT STILL THEY WONT EAT IT.

there was pigeon roost in an old building when i was a young boy. and i would go and watch then grow, and just watch them.all. once i took a bluejay baby who fell from its nest and raised it, up a little. then i was in the roost and there was a dead mother pigeon on its nest wth eggs and i got the eggs and put it in with where the young bluejay lay on the bottom of the cage and it hatched some of the eggs.!, but none lived..that brought back some child hood memorys thank you,you know I can smell that distinct smell.of that roost even now.

They stay in their nest til they fly. They get bigger than their parents, then trim down as they mature. Nearly grown pigeons are called squabs. Some people used to call them a delicassy. Yuuck!1
