I think peanut oil would give them an odd flavor... I would just use margarine or something. Not all oils have soy in them, just look around :-) Good luck.

You could, but they might end up tasting more peanutty than you want. If you are making peanut butter cupcakes that is a good thing- if not, well could be funny tasting. Is there some problem with the more neutral tasting canola ? I suppose you could also use a light olive oil, be a waste to use virgin or extra virgin- but the regular stuff would be nasty as well. If you are just trying to cut down on oil, there are plenty of fruit sauce options that would probably work better.

In my opinion oil is oil. I have substituted oils often and the only thing that changes somewhat is the taste. And peanut oil has a strong taste to it if you don't mind go ahead. But let whoever will be eating them that you used peanut oil in case of allergies.

Peanut oil won't give them a peanut flavor, but I would use 100% corn oil or even olive oil instead.

Better to use safflower or canola oil -- peanut oil is strongly flavored (it's great to use for deep-frying, though, as it has a very high smoke point).

DON'T use olive oil in cupcakes. That's just nasty. It's like putting frosting on spaghetti. Eeeeeeeurgh....

I would use Canola oil as it doesn't have a flavour like your peanut or olive oils or butter or margarine, your cakes might be too peanut flavouring. Also anyone who has an allergy to Peanuts cant eat them
