The problem with the way Christians analyze atheists is that they look at it from a Christian perspective (not surprising, but not conducive to understanding). Christians focus on the afterlife and live now to determine their path in the next life. This makes it hard to switch gears and think like someone who believes they only have the here and now. Sure, there are some people who don't care about others, but the majority of people who do not believe in an afterlife will be more focused on doing the best they can here and now because this is all they have. Pleasures are nice, but there is so much more to personal satisfaction than simple pleasures. To feel satisfied with one's life, one must attempt to achieve, reach goals and dreams, and do what they can while they are here. Good old positive contribution to society is one of the simplest pleasures and atheists seek out these kinds of pleasures, rather than the hollow ones that will hurt others and leave them feeling empty. No one wants to feel empty (not even those zany atheists). So we all must do good things or be completely unsatisfied with life.

Because you cannot live your life based on a fictional book written in the times of thousands of years ago. That is being close minded and it also makes it easy for you to not think on your own. Can you not tell if something is good or bad or harmful to others without resorting to a book? Can't you put up an argument without using this book?
I am not atheist, but I am anti-bible thumping.
No, I do not want to be told that I have to have long hair, wear skirts or dresses all the time, not watch certian things on tv and not listen to certain music, etc. But no, I do not go around commiting "sin" and wreaking havoc because I don't believe in the bible. ALSO that does not make me atheist.
Yes, I think you are good enough to hear god inside just like everyone else is. Do you not think so? Who tells you whats right or wrong? Don't say the bible. Something tells you inside and that is god. Yes, I do think anyone is worthy of god and speaking to god and getting answers. Not just people who worship in a certain way.

SHUT UP
I´m an agnostic, and I am as good a christian as you ar, if not better. I love my neighbor, i am forgetful, compreensive, almost as tolerant as Jesus. I dont have any prejudices against Jews, Islamics or ANYONE, and I respect you, as a person, because I believe in everything i said, ay you may seen that I dont put any hypoccresies like "I respect your cult".
What I do respect indeed is your right to say what you do believe. I may not agree with a single word of it, but I will defend you if you really believe. Bur as far as I konw, most chatolics DO NOT BELIEVE. They do all that stuff (when not only paying lip service) because THEY WERE TOLD so, like robots, electronic sheep, in the church´s capitalist flock.
I, on the other side, i´a men of reason, i only say that i believe in what i DO believe, i dont buy the whole pack, and first of all, i don´t believe because i was told to believe in respect, love and stuff, but because I learnt, slowly and by myself, that that is the best way.
I also happen to know MANY catholics who have a few gripes with the Vatican, but they regardless remain catolic, because they were told so. I, on the other way, may even be a best catholic than they, but I BROKE my link with the church. The fact that I practice what they preach doesn´t guarantee them my TACIT APPROVAL of their policy of intolerancy, arrogance and a fifteen+ hudred years of HATE, MURDER and TYRANNY.
Also, quotes, biblical or not, are not your opinions, paraphrases may be.
Also, I AM NOT an atheist. I could care less if god existed or not.

"You just don't want to be told how to live your life by anybody. Whether it be a godly man or God himself. You want to live a selfish life seeking after personal pleasure and caring nothing about the damage you cause along the way, because after all when it's all over nothing will really matter. So you're gonna do what you want to do to get all the bang out of this life possible before you blink out into oblivion. "
Wow, we atheists are really horrible people.
I guess next time I donate bone marrow, I should make sure it's going to a nice atheist child, because you certainly don't want anything to do with the likes of me.
Oh, and next time I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, I'll make sure the house is going to a nice atheist family, because I might be leaving evil residue on it or something.
Get a life!

Atheists usually want people to use their minds and give logical or reasonable answers, hiding behind what 'God' said or 'The Bible's' teachings will never make an atheist happy.
I think that atheists are going to appreciate life more knowing that it is all that will ever be, life is more precious to them.
Also, i think people would gladly do as they were told by God, if he existed. But there has never been any documented proof of God telling people stuff before. And if you believe that was what happened back in Bible days, good for you, but people require proof to believe things which seem unreasonable, so they probably want to take the word of God from a god, not from ancient stories or traditions.

Well, I am an atheist because it allows me to be a truly moral person. You see, I nurture others and help them the best I can. I enjoy that.
If I nurtured and helped others because there was this eternal life carrot stick being dangled in front of my face by Jesus or whomever, then the motives for my actions become questionable. The motive here could be entirely selfish.
Also it is morally repugnant for me to think about being a Christian. In Matthew 17, one finds Jesus hanging out in the transfiguration cloud with Moses, the man who in Numbers 31:13-20, ordered his troops to hack to death little innocent Midianite children and babies who were prisoners of war. What did Jesus and Moses discuss in that cloud, the best way to dismember children?
No way is Christianity for me.

You basically gave a detailed description of what it means to be an atheist. Simply put they believe; Do what thou will. Then you have those who are Educated. I do believe in and respect education but I have also met MANY educated idiots!! Those who want to argue will always argue.....I think that is what it's really about.

First you need to understand that education does NOT equal intelligence. Education simply proves the ability to memorize facts. Intelligence is another thing altogether. Einstein was not educated, but vastly intelligent. There are many who are educated, but not at all intelligent....and by your own words you are a perfect example.
Typical xtian....parrots, sheep and good little worker bees.

If you are going to make a statment you should support it with evidence. If you do not then there is no reason to belive you.
Bible quotes could be taken many diffrent ways. If you just leave a quote then you are not answering a question. Why not just give your opinion and support it with evidence. If the bible is true then reality would point to what the bible says.
