Most likely it's just one bad tooth spoiling her mouth up. But removing a tooth or two won't bother her, happens all the time.

How old is the cat? Have you ever had her teeth cleaned. Kitties need their teeth cleaned once a year to prevent serious health problems from plague and such. Also, what gives you the idea that her gums are sore? Just a guess, but I'm doubting you sit around playing with her gums. Just curious what gave you that idea, as the behavior that lead you to that may actually be a sign of something else.

The bad breath may very well be from improper feeding. Low grade commercial foods (which would include most foods you find in the grocery store) cause horrible breath and aren't very good for your cat. They contain mostly fillers and chemicals, and are made up of meat by-products and alot of grains and things a cat doesn't need. They are also seriously lacking on nutrients. Try switching to a "natural" cat food. Nature's Variety is a great brand that is comperable in price to good quality commercial food and can be found at most pet stores. It contains no chemicals and has lots of meat (which is what your kitty was meant to eat). I switched my kitties to Nature's Variety, dry food in the morning and wet (canned) at night, and the bad breath is gone, coats are shinning, and kitties are happy as ever! Doing a quick search on natural cat foods will give you plenty of vets who agree that commercial foods do more harm to your pet than good.

Dental problems are not uncommon in cats, in fact today I booked one of my cats for a cleaning. You need to get your vet to look at your cat and some vets allow you have a payment plan or like my vet she let me pay monthly to get a credit for it...

Its best to fix the problem before it becomes more serious, more serious means more money.

If you cat stops eating its amazing how their bodies shut down in a short amount of time. I walked into my vet explaining to a man that because he didn't right away bring his cat in when she stops eating her kidney's almost went into failure and that she now had kidney problems.

Being a compassionate owner and bring her in ASAP

I disagree that cats need their teeth cleaned once a year, your vet is the person to advise you when and if you cats teeth need to be cleaned. Two of my cats are 14 this year and neither have ever had their teeth cleaned. I am getting both of their done this year and only one has slight problems, the other just needs a regular cleaning.

Cats are like people, some people got good teeth some have bad.. same with cats... hard food doesn't improve their teeth its a myth.

She may have diseased gums, caused by plaque on her teeth. Incorrect feeding often causes this.
Cats need hard food and they like chicken wings to chew on to keep teeth and gums healthy..
If your cat does need to have her teeth out, there are many really good soft/wet foods for her to eat.
If you leave her mouth infection, the infection can spread to other parts of her body and she will get sicker.
Get her to the vet and make her more comfortable and nicer to be close to ... lol

As far as the bad breath goes, my cat had very bad breath for a few years (he is 13). I took him to the vet (for something else) and he cleaned his teeth and the odour went away and is just now coming back about a year later. The vet said the cat had cavities, but unless the tooth/teeth cause a specific problem, they don't normally pull them, so it may not cost you any more than a simple cleaning.

It does sound like she's got gum disease, and she may need to have some of her teeth removed. But if you don't get it taken care of it's just going to get worse, and she may stop eating entirely because it hurts too bad.

Take her to the vet and let him do what need to be done before your poor kitty gets worse. If he cleans the teeth now, he can save more of the teeth than if you wait.

she could have gingervitis which is common in cats. u need to get her to a vets for her teeth to be scaled. they will remove some if ness! cats breath does tend to pong a bit tho.

PS DO NOT give your cat chicken wings to chew on, like that weird person suggested, cats should never eat chicken or pork bones as they splinter very easily and the cat can choke

I HAD MY KITTY FOR 16 YEARS AND WAS LUCKY NOT TO HAVE THAT. BUT I DID TAKE HIM TO THE VET EVERY YEAR FOR CHECKUPS AND VACCINATIONS WITHOUT FAIL. IT'S SO EASY FOR THEM TO GET SICK IF THEY'RE NOT CARED FOR. THE SOLUTION IS SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO SPEND THE CASH AND TAKE CARE OF THEM. EVEN IF SHE LOSES A TOOTH THAT'S NOT FATAL, IT'S BETTER SHE GETS TO THE DOCTOR THAN HER DYING A TERRIBLE DEATH FROM INFECTION OR STARVATION. HOPE SHE GETS BETTER.
