You will not find a large Auchan or Carrefour (equivalent to a Wal Mart) in Paris; they are limited in size per law. You'll have to cross the peripheripherique border to find one.
I would recommend the following chain:
Monoprix
21 av Opéra
75001 PARIS
It's neat and have almost everything you need
This Monoprix is just a couple minutes North from the Pyramid of the Louvre

Paris is divided in arrondissement and there are 20.
supermarket chain, do u mean for food ? if yes, I don't think there is any major supermarket chain.
Ed, a hard discounter or Monoprix.

you'll certainly find some stores like Franprix (I think it's quite expensive). Otherwises, major chains are outside Paris (Carrefour in Porte d'Auteuil 16th arrdt, Auchan but don't remember where!). Parisians are used to shop in Franprix or local groceries stores (very little ones!).
