God knows even your inner thoughts but I think God moves more readily when one prays out loud. To me it seems to establish a more personal closeness to him.

Can you teach by thinking. I find that when I pray out loud I am taught by my spirit of things I was not aware of. I find it uncomfortable to pray out loud so it must be the correct way to do it. Is it not uncomfotrable to read aloud also, then do that as weel but be careful when and where for it is written:

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have recieved their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your heavenly Father who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them for your Fahter know what you need before you ask him. Matthew 6:5-8

As far as Jesus never praying out loud, that is blasphame. He always prayed out loud and wept. What do you call this :
Jesus cried out in a loud voice "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" Mark 15:34

I pray in my mind but find that it works better if you pray outloud, you don't have to pray in a loud voice, you can just whisper if you want to as long as your mouth is moving

You can pray silently, of course. Be sure to really tell God what is on your mind and don't just use mindless repetition. Always remember that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man so all prayers must be said through him to God.

There is not a wrong or right answer, the important thing is you are reaching out for his guidance. I'm not going to get into a whole bible thumping debate, but if you are sincere in your misgivings, blessings, concerns, praises, requests, and guidance, it doesn't matter.

Just be sincere in your heart, and dont' make a mockery about it, he'll hear you either way! Be well!

Are you praying so that others can hear you pray and go "oh gosh, what a good guy," or so you can pray, whatever that means to you?

Good silent prayer technique: Icon reading - meditation.

Jesus reminded his disciples that they should not pray as the lawgivers do but enter into thy closet. He went into the garden to pray, so he could be alone with God. I find no record of Jesus praying out loud.

Praising and praying are different!
Praising is spoken words prayer can be either loud or silent or you may chose to use both during prayer! or simply chose the one which fits the mood.

Prayer is your private connection to God. Why would you pray in loud voice?
