The best way is to be straight forward with them and tell them either your fuc---g with someone else or you just did'nt want to be with them any more.

Simply be honest with how you feel. Tell them straight, they may be upset, but at least u have been true to yourself, and not gone along with it and not been happy,.

I WOULD JUST BE HONEST WITH THE PERSON AND LET
THEM KNOW THAT YOU WANT TO BE JUST FRIENDS. AND
GO FROM THERE, IT WILL ONLY GET HARDER AS TIME PASS ON.
