This is probably as close as you will get inside:
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, trimmed
2 tablespoons barbecue rub, recipe follows
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon liquid smoke, optional
3/4 to 1 cup barbecue sauce
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basic Barbecue Rub
3 tablespoons each: sweet paprika, light or dark brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons freshly ground pepper
1 tablespoon each: garlic salt, onion salt, celery salt
1 teaspoon each: ground cumin, dried oregano
1. Heat the grill pan over medium heat. Sprinkle the chicken breasts with the rub mixture on both sides, rubbing it onto the meat with your fingertips. Cover; refrigerate 20 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, melt butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat; stir in liquid smoke, if using.
3. Arrange the chicken breasts on the grill on a diagonal to the ridges. Cook 2 minutes; baste with butter mixture. Turn chicken; cook 2 minutes. Baste. Cook chicken, turning as needed, until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thick part of the breast registers 160 degrees, about 8 minutes. Transfer chicken to a platter. Brush with any remaining butter; serve with barbecue sauce.
Preparation time: 10 minutes.
Chilling time: 20 minutes.
Cooking time: 8 minutes.
Yield: 4 servings

Smoking can actually be done on a stove top
I made tea smoked chicken and eggs in my International cuisine class. It's a chinese recipe, but you can change what you use to smoke it to change the flavor.
What we did was use a wok. Line the wok with big, long pieces of tin foil, you're going to use the extra to make a tent over the chicken. In the bottom of the lined wok, put 1/4 cup loose black tea leaves, 1/4 cup raw long grain rice, and 1 tbsp sugar. Then you need to get a bunch of bamboo skewers and lay them out to make a platform above the tea and rice. Put FULLY COOKED chicken legs on platform (we marinated the chicken in soy sauce and seasame oil and then steamed it). Then turn on the heat, it should start smoking (the sugar gets it going), and use the tin foil to make a tent over the chicken. Make sure it's sealed up. Just let it smoke, once it gets going, for 2 to 4 minutes.
Make sure you have a hood over your stove to suck up the smoke.
Now, this isn't the same as smoking something for a full day and cooking it in the process. This is just a way to add a nice smokey flavor. I don't know if it's what you were thinking of, but it's a pretty neat trick anyway.

smoked chicken is popularly known as tandoori chicken in India.
usually this is prepared using boneless chicken .
for marinade....
chicken-1/2 kg
ginger garlic paste-4 tsp
green chilly paste-4 tsp
red chilly powder-3tsp
curd-1 cup /2 lemons(nimbu ka ras)
salt-to taste
red food colour-a pinch
method......
take chicken in a large bowl and prick all the pieces with a fork.add ginger garlic paste, green chilly paste, red chilly powder ,food colour and 1cup curd /lime juice n salt and leave it to marinade for 4 hours.
as we have pricked the chicken the masala will seep in and give a good taste .chilly powder n paste should be used generously as curd /lime makes it less spicy.tandoori chicken needs no oil to fry.after the chicken is well marinated,it's ready to be cooked.
now if you have grill facility in your microwave, take barbecue sticks(toothpick material) and put chicken pieces one by one.
cook the chicken in the microwave in grill mode/micro n grill com-bi or if you have the convection mode i think it will do good.
cook for 20-30 mins or more.
hope you try this!

Good smoked meats require a smoke house. So it's probably best for you to simply buy what you like.
