Okay, to clear this up, the kids dad's never wanted anything to do with them, one of them left her 4 months preg, the other left her 8 months preg and haven't had anything to do with them since then.

ATTENTION: You can still be a father to your gf's kids, without adopting them.

I'm only giving you this option, because I know of several people that got screwed over royal when they got divorced. If you adopt them, they'll become your financial liability even after a divorce. Also, if you're in a state that recognizes common law marriage ... then you may already be technically married & partially responsible financially for the kids.

Check with a lawyer before you proceed.

You would need to legally adopt them. I am not sure what the laws in your state are about that..but here in NH, I had to terminate my son's father's parental rights(he was a deadbeat too)in order for my husband to adopt my son. His biological father had to sign a petition in front of the judge saying he was relinquishing his rights and also that he understood he no longer had any say in anything concerning my son. Here is the kicker...He had not paid support and owed 25,000 in back support, even though he is no longer my son's dad, he still was court ordered to pay child support.

look up your adoption questions there. They also have the forms and stuff you need to do this. We are going through this ourselves with my husband adopting my daughter. We had to file a jiont petition on her and get the dude to sign a form giving him all his parental rights to get it done faster. It costs about 300 to file the papers. Good luck to a good man!

Marrying her would be a start, then you would have to go to court and have the father sign away all his legal rights to the children, but that shouldn't be a problem If he is not in the picture.

I really respect men like you that are willing to take on responsibility of raising children that are not biologically yours, But i bet in your eyes you love them like they are your own!! My children's father is not around and i prey a man like you comes my way too!!

Good Luck

Legally you would have to adopt them. You'd also have to get permission from the real father too. After that, they can change their name to your last name. Then you will all be a happy family.

You would need the biological father to give up his rights and then you could adopt them.

the kids biological father would have to sign away rights. if he is not in the picture then you have to publish it in the paper. if he is a jerk, dead beat dad, and is suppose to pay child support you could do what i am doing......just have the last name of the kids changed, roughly $250 per kid, plus it screws the other guy. win win

To make them legally yours, you would have to adopt them. You'll need to talk with a lawyer about what would be involved in that.
