I lift weghts. But I am a little fat. I am always afraid to go on a diet because I have noticed that everytime I go on a diet, I begin to lose strength. Am I imagining this or is it an actual fact?

you shouldn't lose strength as long as you continue lifting weights & eat protein to maintain/build muscles.

Dieting in general is not a smart choice, you have to make a lifestyle choice to eat healthier and exercise, a diet will just slow your metabolism and will make you gain more weight later on. Its no surprise that you feel weaker, because your body is not processing enough food to give you energy, whether it builds muscle or not. The best "diets" are ones that you actually eat more, but sensibly, eating complete three meals a day with three light snacks, this insures that your body will keep burning calories and not go into slow metabolic mode. Also lifting weights will not burn calories that much, doing more cardio exercises will, hopefully this helps.

hi there! i have been on the atkins diet for a year i have lost about fifty pounds i honestly dont excercise alot, but i continue the diet. i think it depends on what diet your on, this one in particular eliminates carbs which carbs provide energy so yeah i prob lose a little energy. i do suggest you take plenty of vitamins when dieting considering you dont get all your vitamins when doing so. this will up the energy level. you are definetly not imagining it but try to diet again and take lots of vitamins and stay hydrated and see if that works:) happy dieting!!

No.
You need to make healthy food choices while dieting. It is not just about eating less.
Try lean protein chioces, and increase your fruit and vegetables. Eat raw produce whenever you can. And eat nuts for protein and fiber sources.
You can actually feel stronger, while consuming less calories.

Could be fact. Are your diets sound eating or fads? Please don't diet, just move that body and eat what you know are good foods and be sure to eat lots of green leafy veggies, beets, and other iron rich foods. Proteins to build muscles, eggs, peanut butter, beans, rices, and cheeses are great.

Yes. Sometimes. I know first hand, if you're basically starving yourself, or eating too litte, you can get weak. Especially if you cut off all carbohydrate intake. You're body uses carbohydrates for fuel, and without them you're muscles will not function to their best ability. Eating lots of carbs can make you gain weight, but eating too little can make you weak.
