My cat was treated a month ago and her symptoms have improved but not very quickly. She has only gained half a pound and her coat isn't great. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

You may want to have her kidney values rechecked at your regular vet. The only real drawback to the procedure is that it can sometimes make cats go into renal failure, or make so-so kidneys worse. That's why they require full bloodwork and x-rays before the procedure is done. Good luck. Keep me posted, if you don't mind.

When our cat was diagnosed for hyperthyroidism, we choose to put him on medication instead after discussing it with the vet.

However my mother-in-law has had this radio active iodine for HER thyroid (after earlier surgery & medication wasn't enough). It helps, but it really depends on the individual. She had a very serious thyroid problem.

Half a pound isn't bad for a cat,and the coat will take a while to improve. Even in our healthy cats, when these "lose coat" in the summer it takes some months before it comes back for the winter.

If you still have concerns, discuss it with the vet who is treating your cat.

No.I haven't,as the only place to have it done is miles away, and It's very expensive,so my cat takes Methimazole twice a day. He's been on it for 3 years and he's still never gained back all of his weight.I had another cat with it as well, and despite taking the Methimazole,he died from heart problems caused by the hyperthyroidism. But,I think, since your cat had the iodine treatment, and that destroys the thyroid gland, then she should eventually gain most of her weight back.Good luck, and hope your cat is ok.

I've never had a cat treated for that, but I think you'd better have your cat treated, and quickly! Whatever your cat has is rubbing off on you by the look of your picture!
