I ran cross country for a decade. Believe me its the best way to stay fit. May I suggest not running around a track or even on a treadmill... too boring. It is an excellent way to tome your body. If you can try to inhale with your stomach pushing out rather then your chest outward. This stretches the abs and within a few weeks you can really notice the muscles in the stomach coming though.
Mix it don't do the same trail/path every day.
Run based on time not on miles.
Best of luck.

I heard on some TV show that the suggested amount of time to run is a half hour, every day. This will greatly improve your stamina, or how well your heart can keep up with your body. It will also get you some fresh air. Even more, it will allow you to possibly see beautiful sights, depending on where you run. I will give you a link that I hope will help you: http://www.mamashealth.com/book/run.asp
That website has all kinds of really neat facts on running. And just remember: If you take care of your body, your body will take care of you. :)

If your knees can handle it......put on your headphones and "go to town." I use to love to run in the mornings but it was hard on the joints. Now i really enjoy swimming. Not only is it a great workout but, really tones every muscle in the body. Most swimming pools have what they call "lap-swim"thats where the only people allowed in the pool are people strictly swimming laps.

Well, yes and no. Runiing will make your legs more shapely and you will be healthier and thinner but if you want to have a toned body then you need to weight train. If you want more advice on weight training then just send me a message through yahoo.

One day i just decided to start jogging every day... I had a difficult time, I got tired easily and my legs were sore.... baby steps- you should start by walking 1 to 2 miles every day, and then later on jogging

It is better to walk than to jog. Jogging does put a lot of stress on your joints. I have lost more weight walking a mile and a half a day than I have by jogging. I think I stick to it better.
