it doesnt really matter. normally the taller person has their hand on top and the shorter person's hand is on the bottom. its just most comfortable. has nothing to do with male dominance or anything.

If the couple is fine with it, why should it bother you? It does seem that the man usually has his hand over the woman but if somehow the hands are in the "wrong" position it's awful silly to switch. Sometimes one position is just more comfortable for one person or the other. My arthritis sometimes limits the way I can hold hands without pain. Someday you will fall in love and you will realize that it doesn't matter how you hold hands just as long as as you do it.

I didn't know there was an etiquette for this!
It seems that with the man's hand in front, over the woman's hand, the woman is put in a "childish" position as if the man is holding the hand of a child. It might be comfortable for them both, though, so whatever feels best, that's what they should do. I myself find it awkward to hold a man's hand with my hand in front.

Most of the time it naturally happens with the mans hand over the womans. I never really thought about it being a dominance issue.

Yes, you are wrong! They should hold hands in any way that is comfortable to them. Maybe she likes to hold her hand on the top? Maybe he likes it. He looks like a loving person when he says it does not matter to him. You look like somebody who is about dominance and control rather than somebody who wants to connect with a partner. It is about the loving connection, not about what it looks like when they do it!

I agree with you! The husband is the dominant person in the house or relationship! He is the head of the household per God! The wife or girlfriend need to submit to that!

thats rediculous. it doesn't matter whose hand is on top or bottome. if you're looking at being dominant you probably don't hold a girls hand. that would be sissy

It may not matter to him, but she may leave him for another man who DOES put his arm on top.
Women like those formalities, and consider anyone who doesn't observe them to be "not a TRUE MAN".
