SHOULD PARENTS BE ALLOWED TO SPANK THEIR CHILDREN?…ASK ANY TWO PEOPLE ON THE STREET, AND CHANCES ARE YOU’LL GET TWO DIFFERENT ANSWERS…SPANKING YOUR CHILDREN IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW…BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN SPANK DOESN’T MEAN YOU SHOULD…

THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO DISCIPLINE, SUCH AS A TIME OUT, OR THE LOSS OF A FAVORITE TOY OR PRIVILEGE…“CATCH ‘EM BEING GOOD” – REINFORCE YOUR CHILD’S GOOD BEHAVIORS BY POINTING THEM OUT…

JUST REMEMBER THAT IF YOUR FRIEND CHOOSES TO SPANK HER CHILD, REMIND HER, NEVER TO DO SO WHEN SHE IS ANGRY…THAT’S WHEN PARENTS LOSE CONTROL – AND WHEN CHILDREN GET HURT…SPANKING IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW – BUT INJURING A CHILD IS.

AND – WHENEVER SHE DISCIPLINES HER CHILD, ALWAYS DO TWO THINGS – MAKE SURE THE CHILD UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE BEING DISCIPLINED, AND THEN REASSURE THEM THAT SHE LOVES THEM.

BE A FRIEND, TALK TO HER, LET HER KNOW HOW YOU FEEL. IF SHE TAKES YOUR ADVICE ALL IS GOOD. IF NOT, ITS HER PARENTING AND YOU CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, EXCEPT SEVER THE FRIENDSHIP. IF YOU FEEL THE CHILD IS AT HARM PLEASE CONTACT AUTHORITIES.

Are you a parent? I think it is to harsh, there are people out there that complain that kids are to bad these days. There is nothing wrong with spanking your kid as long as it is with an open hand on the bottom. and the child knows what they are getting spanked for.

I would say that is harsh. People discipline their kids in different ways, and as long as she isn't abusing her kids there is nothing wrong with spanking them. If you are that uncomfortable why not just talk to her and tell her how you feel and perhaps ask her not to do it while you are around or at least go in the other room.

Define spanks! Is she injuring them? Or disciplining them? There is a big difference! Do you have kids? If no you'll someday understand, if yes , my hats off! I have two and spankings are far and few between but sometimes necessary! It's your judgment call, you know her and the kids! I have seen women spank and spank and god it drives me nuts too because they don’t fix the problem just yell and spank! I'd not hang out with someone like that... Good luck!

I think ending the friendship is a little extreme, they're her kids, and as long as she's not beating them, or spanking for no reason I don't see a problem with a swat every now and then.

depends on 2 things...
how r the spankings being done?
what r the children like?
aggressivly spanking them not good.. just a smack on the butt usually ok...
ever try dealing with children who have real psycological problems? sometimes a spanking is the only thing that will have an impact on a child. (of course that often won't work either)
think about these questions and then decide for yourself if you are being too harsh.

Who are you to say how someone raises their kids? But anyway, if that is the only disiplinary method used, well she will have some f*ed up kids thats for sure. That should be a last resort, but if a parent does not have that in the arsenal then that takes away a very effective teaching method, if used sporadically. My best friend gives his three year old a swat on the butt once in a great while, but only when all other methods of behavior correction have failed.

thats way to harsh, but to each their own. There isn't anything wrong with spanking your kids, its a good punishment. I was spanked and will spank my kids, it beats a time out.

If she just spanks them, yes you are being harsh. If she beats them then no. Kids these days take advantage of parent's fears when disciplining them.

too harsh.... talk to her about the spanking. Maybe you can talk some sense into her head and get her to quit spanking them. Rethink the friendship.... good luck.
