Not sure how they pick the final name, but their official name is based and mandated on a nomenclature system, IUPAC. It gets very complicated in large molecules, but basically provides an order and name for which to name the base molecule and all other functional groups.

A maximum of two years before they change the name. It`s the trick of the trade .

you have generic names and brand names, these are usually named after the chemical compound but abbreviated.
it makes sales much more easier.

They got this deal on leftover letters, but they had lots of "Z"s "J"s and "Q"s, so these enarly unpronouncible names.

"Could I have Hrftuqjilkz?"
