Its a cultural thing. Like how some people say soda, pop or coke. I do use O for 0 alot and so does my whole family. I think the O for 0 is mostly in the Us and then only parts of the country. I think its been around for awhile because alot of older people I know say it the same way as I do.

I think people have used it for a long time.
Today, however, you have to try to say it correctly because many passwords and other important numbers now have zeros and O's in them.
For this reason I gradually got used to saying Zero over the past 10 years or so.

I totally agree! I disagree with the person that said that "O" sounds better than zero. It may "look" better when you are typing it, but it definitely doesn't sound better. I equate it with taking the easy way out like so many of us do.

I totally agree. I used to work at Meijer and I was always paging so and so 450. everyone else would say "o" it really did irritate me. i guess it's not that big of a deal, but it can be stupid sounding.

Same time the television reporters and personalities started saying "gonna" for "going to"... aaaagghhhhhhh!!! That is so unprofessional and they all do it. Is that accepted as no longer slang, gonna?

Zero meaning "nothing". "o" meaning blank! Zero taking the place of the absence of. Not really all that complicated!
