It takes humility, good will, humor, decency and a willingness to accept Jesus Christ as your friend and savior.. It's not hard, but it's not easy either..
Oh, it also takes a willingness to be happy, even when the world seems to make you sad.

Being good isn't the answer, that comes out fake. Doing good things is important, but not where your salvation lies. Having faith as simple as it sounds is a hard road to take. Being mindful of others and giving love when none is required is clearly a triat to strive for. Love is a verb, an action word, not a feeling. Life is short so show love where ever you can. Act justly, love humbly, and walk in faith with your God. If you are a christian, you shouldn't have to say it. You can demonstrate it. So don't worry about being a 'good or perfect christian' you're accepted no matter what. And don't get caught up on labels, it turns people off.

I don't believe that there is a such thing as a good christian. If you are a christian then you are good. I can't be more of a christian then anyone else. Those who believe that they are, will have a big surprise coming to them when they get to Heaven.
If they make it.

To be a GOOD Christian you must learn what Jesus is teaching, ALL of it, not just what seems "acceptable" and easy and maybe "logical".
You must follow his teachings ("in His footsteps") and apply them in your live.
What does Jesus teach again and again and again? We must WANT to act out of compassion: 1. to love God with all our being and above all "things" and 2. to love (be kind to) ALL our fellow human beings, even those who don't agree with us or those we don't agree with.
Jesus says those two are the "first and foremost commandments" and are the basis of THE LAW. Any other laws or interpretations of laws that don't align with those two basic laws are invalid.
Just imagine! If all humans would willingly (not because they have been told) act out of compassion toward the "others" there truly would be peace on Earth! Unfortunately we are not perfect and to bear "our cross" often seems too hard (or illogical, or "unscientific). - No, I'm not perfect either!
That's why we have to learn to be honest to ourselves and admit that we have failed, again and again and again, and resolve to (at least try to) do better next time!
Because WE are not perfect we also have to forgive others for offences they may have committed against us.
We can then ask for forgiveness and get "peace of mind" - until the next time.
As someone else put it: " Love (I don't mean SEX!) is the answer - whatever the question".

Blind stupidity appears to be the most common requirement.
Another requirement is that you become mindless and obedient and accept unquestioningly whatever nonsense is spoonfed to you - regardless of whether or not it makes any sense.
The desire to **** little boys appears to be quite popular as well.
Apparently you can be considered a good christian by handling snakes and drinking koolaid.
Apparently the merciless killing of innocent people in a witch hunt is considered moral and makes you a good christian too, as does smuggling weapons into a compound and shooting it out with the ATF.
The most important thing to do to become a good christian is to follow the example set forth by your god: torturing and killing your children.
If that's not morality I don't know what is.
Keep the faith brother, keep the faith.

Well remember, our Christianity is not earned or based on merit so no one is good except for God. Throughout the bible God states His love for his people. He asked them to simply turn to Him and forsake all things that are not of Him. He desires a relationship with his people. And like the other post says, Love Him with all of our heart mind and soul. We will never be good Christians, yet we are forgiven, redeemed and loved by the one true God, who longs for a people to hearken unto Him.

A true Christian is on who has come to God in The Way He proscribes and received His free Gift of Salvation. Those are then of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Only those of The Church will enter Heaven.
That is the short answer. I invite you to read my page on who is a Christian. Here is the direct link to it:

Join a megachurch. Put a Jesus Fish sticker on the bumper of your SUV. Listen to Christian rock on your ipod. Carry around an NIV study bible like it was some sort of sacred idol.
At least that's what I gather from watching Christians.
It doesn't seem to bear much resemblance to the way Jesus lived.
Go figure.

james w,
Great question!
A Christian is a good Christian IF he holds on to God's word more than life itself.
It has nothing to do with being good. If you trust in God enough, He will change you, and that's the change that is real and has eternal consequences. The other changes people make themselves are self-willed, and may not have eternal consequences.

It takes blind faith in one book, and a lot of work the rest of your life, with no visible reward to become a good Christian to the rest of the Christians. To find out if you have it right, you have to die.
