My 3 kids (white) went to private school up to grade 6, then public city schools. Our city schools are half hispanic and one quarter black. My kids learned to get along with everyone and had some really good teachers who were smart, dedicated and professional. They never had a problem. Their friends were every color under the sun, from all different countries and backgrounds. Now one of my kid is in Med School, one is a philosophy professor and one a medical research team leader. They all went from public HS to top colleges.
Your school is what you make it!

It depends on the school. I taught at a public high school in a big city that was considered one of the better schools. There were some great teachers, some average, some not so good. At some public schools the environment isn't so good because some schools have a lot of students who are there for reasons other than education. At others, things are great. So you can't generalize that public school is always bad. Some public schools do very well.

Actually, Colleges are looking more to public schools for recruiting new freshmen. The trend is shifting towards public schools having higher quality educations because of the implementation of the No Child Left Behind Act. Teachers need to be qualified to teach their subject in Public schools, where as Private schools do not have strict requirements for their teachers.
Also, see the attached article. But in all, no, public schools really aren't that bad. :)

No it really depends on how you look at it, if you're a quiet or shy person than homeschooling is better because you don't socialize but usually in a public school you have more freedom & you can socialize more. Sometimes private schools are too strict.

You certainly learn things in public schools that you never learn in snooty private schools or over protective home schools. Like self-preservation. A girl at my school had her throat slashed with a box knife yesterday. But private schools look better if youre thinking about ivy league college. (Public schools really arent that bad- the whole throat slashing thing really was shocking, I would definitly visit local public schools before making a decision, its all about location)

I'd go with Homeschool, then Private, then "no" school, then public. In that order.

It really depends on what type of environment that the parent wants their child in. If they want to shelter them from the opinions of others then YES! it is. Or even the way that other people are. If they want to have control over the environment that their children learn in then homeschooling is next to the only option.

Public School is not bad...you just need to take advantage of what is given to you. You also need to take a lot of AP classes and have good grades, and good SAT scores.

NO!! Im in 8th grade. Ileegals and poor family kids make out with each other. Kids vandelize the bathrooms. Not a racist but Mexican kids continuosly speak spanish. Its cool at first but then its annoying as they blurt out language and cuss in the halls. They send notes in class. They bring mexican rap songs and play it at lunch. They then dance (touch). Its not just mexican kids.
Other kids ruin my learning experiance its hell. The only kids nice are the kids in my honors class.
