I live in a condo, so it would have to be rather small. But, I don't want a dumb yipper type of dog either. Any suggestions?

Check your local animal shelter. All my dogs have been from rescue places and they have been wonderful.

Small dogs are tricky. The smart and sweet ones, no one ever gives away-like a West Highland Terrier.

If your looking for a dog thats already trained somewhat and older that try adoption. You can find all kinds of adoption rescues no matter where you live. Read up on different type dogs and that way you will be able to decide what breed best suits you. most small dogs are yipper, lol but there are few who arent that bad. The shihtzus are ok.

Sunflower I would recommend a medium sized mixed breed. Mixed breed dogs are historically lower maintenance than pure breeds. I would suggest getting a lab mix.
If you're more into a pure bred Boston Terriers are fun dogs.

Definately try and find dog rescues or check the pound. Most of the dogs at the pound aren't there because of bad behavior. It's usually the owner's fault that their displaced.

Now you got me wanting another dog.

You can go to your local Humane Society. Someone there will be happy to help you pick out the right dog for you. Or, you can try looking on www.petfinder.org. There are many older dogs listed on that site.
