First of all, I'm terribly sorry for your lost. The general rule is that the larger the breed of dog, the less years they usually life given they do not become fatally ill or injured. So a retriever, since it is a large breed dog, will typically, on the average, live between 12-14 years.

Your retriever is considered a large breed; therefore baring any extreme medical problems, life expectancy is approximately 12-14 yrs give or take 3 years. Good Luck and take good care of your pup.

the life span is usually 10-14 years for a retriever. bigger dogs generally have shorter life spans than smaller dogs. but your silky lived for a long time! 18 yrs wow! usually smaller dogs live about 14-16 years.

12-14 years for a retriever-sized dog...I have heard of some that haved lived longer, but it's unusual. My Lab/hound mix is 14 now and still going strong...so hopefully he will prove me wrong!

9 - 12 years.
Feed it Max dog food and it will most likely live much longer. Max is a wonderful dog food. The very best food for dogs.

Your loyal companion lived an incredibly long amount of time--way above the average of any animal its size or breed I have seen. You definitely enjoyed him above average. :)
