I have always understood that it is just proper English and not intended to say "God" is male. Not to be disrespectful but, such a concept of "God" having gender seams odd to me.

You are not Christian are you. If you were a Christian you would know the the answer to this question and be ashamed to type it out.

God's pretty smart. He sent His Word made flesh to die on the Cross for the sins of the entire world. Jesus Christ is the Word of God. Jesus Christ is a man.

I suggest that you read the Bible. The KJV.
Go to John 1:1-3 and read these verses.

It says there: IN THE BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH GOD, AND THE WORD WAS GOD.

Now you know for certain that when you see the Son of God, you see also the Father.><>

Because God refers to Himself as male in Torah and scriptures.
The logic of it is that God created man in His image. We as humans know that it is the man who carries the "seed" of reproduction and that the woman is "vessel" that a new life in nurtured in. So the simularity between humans and God is that life only comes from the male while the female nutures.

Yeah, many won't like this, but that's what's taught in scripture and medical science. All I can suggest for those who don't like it, maybe there is another religion or belief that you would feel more comfortable with - so, good luck.

Long before either The Bible, Torah Or Koran ever existed, He was known as God/Allah, the FATHER and creator of all things. Christ was, IS the son of God, and he called him Father. There is no logic other than the truth, however, that is MY belief, if you want to call God SHE or IT, that is between you and God and no one has the right to tell you otherwise. I believe God is male, but respect whatever you choose, even if you choose not to believe in God at all, all I ask is that same respect in kind. I wish you all the best in your search for what is the truth to you.

Well as far as Christians, Jesus refers to God as Father. Of course Jesus is also a male. Now is God The Father an actual male, I don't think so.

As far as the Bible using male pronouns to describe God, I think it's because of our limitation of the actual knowledge of God. He has to work within our limitation of thoughts and knowledge. We cannot know Him exactly because we don't have an ability of understanding an infinite being. And according to the Bible males have a certain hierarchy when it comes to Creation(how God created the world from the beginning). And so God chooses to represent Himself with that in mind, I think.

The only proof of any kind for the "God" that these ppl are talking about is the Bible. Now the books of the Bible were written by men. Then several hundred years later men decided which of these books were going to be included. In these included text, man was the superior of woman. Woman was to be subservient to men. The guidelines for man woman hierarchy was put into this book which was to have been the word of God. Therefore, man, these many men had to have God be a man, giving them more claim to it's contents.

Because all the movies portray God as the little old man with the white robe and beard blessing everyone he comes in contact with.

God, if there is one, is higher than a man, more of a power that no man can touch really.

They need to make him human so they have something to worship.

It's just common "Proper" English. I don't let it bother me. People use a lot of terms that are disrespectful to the feminine, we live in a very patriarchal society and it has effected the language we speak.

Probably because the Bible refers to God as "he".

God can be anything that God wants to be. If God wants to be a "he", who are you or I to argue?

Because the current world religions have done everything in their power to wipe out the old religions- which of course were female or nature based. The MEN wanted to be in charge and now they are.Of course they're going to say that the ultimate power/being/etc. is a male- do you think that they have any intention of giving power back to women? Most of them won't even allow women to be religious leaders. You can learn a lot by reading old history books- NOT the ones they give you in schools, they've been sanitized to say what they want them to say. Dig deep and learn the real truth.
