I took my car to a dealer for an oil change and walked over to a restaurant. She was rude from the beginning. I ordered breakfast. What she brought did not match what I ordered. I told her to bring the menu out and showed her what I ordered and what I wanted. I heard her mouthing off to the cook about what a pain in the *** I was. I waited calmly for her to bring out the food and told her I no longer was interested in breakfast and told her to give me the check for the coffee, because I drank some while I waited. The waitress at the register was one I dealt with before who was very professional. She asked me how my meal was. I told her that the waitress was so rude and unprofessional that I declined the meal. She apologized on behalf of the waitress and told me she would let the manager know. I am usually a very generous tipper. This was the first and last time I did not leave a tip for a waitress. I noticed that she was also nasty to other customers. I wonder if she made any tips at all.
In summary, I never act ugly or lose my temper, with bad service I simply will not accept the meal, not tip and will tell the manager directly or indirectly about my experience.

This just happened to me in the drive thru at McDonald's. The gal taking the money at window #1 was very cold. The only words out of her mouth were the amount of my order, no hello, no thank you, nothing. After I paid gal at window #2 (very nice by the way) I asked her if I could speak to her manager. When manager arrived, I just told her about gal at first window and how I usually use this drive through once a week and that girl had no customer service skills/manners. I just wanted to voice my opinion and didn't expect to gain anything other than venting. I would react the same way at any establishment.....

I have had this happen before. The best way to get results is to remain calm and ask to see the manager (nicely). If you smile and ask for the manager, most people are fooled into thinking that everything is OK. Calmly state the issue and usually it will be resolved. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, then call the toll-free number that most companies have or go to their website. Be sure you get the store number and the employee's name.
P.S. Don't return food in the drive-thru; someone might give you a "special" order.

At a fast food place, I do not use the Drive Thru - I go inside to the Counter. When it is my Turn to Order and the person on the other side of the counter is acting up or chatting with someone else -
I turn right around and walk out and go somewhere else.

I may ask to speak to management, and state the problem or issue, and request the meal be free. I would probably not pick a fight, because that just tends to make things worse. Sometimes I just cannot stop myself, though, and I'll make a biting or sarcastic comment back at the employee who is being rude to me.

The best thing to do is to ask to talk to a manager. Explain your situation to them and usually they will try to make it right by offering you a free product or meal. Sometimes however, poor service can not be helped due to lack of staff or inexperienced pesonel. But don't complain just to try to get something for nothing. I am a waitress and even though you try to do your best, there are some people you just can't please. But always talk to a person in charge before getting upset yourself.

"bad service" is subjective. I was treated poorly at a McDonald's drive up a few weeks back, and I called the number to headquarters to let them know what sort of service I received.
If I am in a restaurant, my tip, or lack thereof, will speak for me.
I am a consumer advocate and expect to be treated in a dignified and respectful manner when I'm handing over my hard earned moolah. And if this wheel don't get it, I squeak! :)

This has happened probably to everyone. The best way is to contact the manager, and tell them. If it is a legitimate complaint, then a lot of times you will not have to pay, or they will give you a gift card to come back.
