While I can agree I don't care for it either and am tired of having to see more of most people then I care to see, still...this just sounds like oppression to me... If it has to be set as "should we let" women do something, then what of men? How 'bout something like male chastity belts that their mother's or wives hold the key to.... bwahahaha

Well, I live in America, and we don't have a particular dress code here for everyday wear. Employers and schools can demand a dress code, and often do, but what a person wears on their own time is actually an expression of what that person thinks and/or feels about herself. The law cannot prohibit such freedom, according to our Constitution.
I really believe it would be useless to try and pass laws to "enforce" a dress code on other people, especially if they do not adhere to the same faith as I do. Since how we dress is an expression of who we are, the necessary changes need to take place in the heart and mind. Forcing a certain mode of dress on another will NOT change the thought patterns! It will just create bitterness and/or anger in the person, which will lead to resentment and more dissociative behaviour. It will not lead to their salvation.
I do, however, object to the way ladies fashions are expressed in this country. It seems that "fashionable" means "half naked"! What is up with that? I work in a cold place; what good will a dozen tank tops do me? How am I supposed to look professional, when all of the ladies dress clothing only fits 8yr old girls, and then even then should only be seen on the beach? Why is it that "nice" looking fashions are made for everybody but mature women? I'm really tired of the fashion fascists and their insistence on 12 lb beauty queens! And I REALLY CAN'T STAND some of the clothing offered to me as an "older woman". It looks like it was beaten with an ugly stick! With crap like that to look foreward to, no wonder kids run around half naked today!
We need a daring young designer to come up with some GOOD LOOKING discreet clothing. Maybe then people will want to wear it!

Above the knee, why not? Just not showing everything. As for the midriff, common sense should rule there too. There's a time and place.

Personally I prefer the longer skirts. But, I wouldn't see anything wrong with someone wearing one a little above the knee.

As a believer, I would say that there are some things that we should'nt wear. The head of your house(home and church) should have some guidelines for the proper dress. Always remember that the spirit should guide each individual and remind them that we represent Christ wherever we go. We live under the laws of the new testament, not the old.

Scripture tells us to dress in a chaste manner. That means for us not to dress in such a way to deliberately cause sexual arousal in another person.
This manner of dress is and must be determined in the area and culture in which you live. For going almost naked in Africa is not a turn on for many tribes . Dressing up is what attracts and draws sexual desire.
Where in the USA the less you dress the more Sexual stimulation you cause in another.
The answer you seek is within the confines of the culture in which you live.

Of course we should let them. But that does not mean we should stop teaching the benefits of dressing modestly. Your question shows a great deal of ignorance. You seem to think that Christians want to force rules on you. What we really try to do is to teach people to obey on their own.

This suppy sup girl, or whatever it may be, it's pretty hateful. I will pray for her anger issues. I think clothes we wear should honor and glorify God, always! It is a choice we make when we decide what to wear. I hope most of us remember that when we pick clothes to wear, if we say we are Christian.

Since we live in an age and culture of freedom, then I suspect we should:
a) Not stare
b) Not use sex driven media
c) Pray
d) Live as though women are esteemed and not mere sex objects.
e) Support those community/national/and international programs which are concerned in these areas.

I think its pretty stupid that women wear long skirts all the time. Even though it is part of their religion.
