To my knowledge the tobbacco industry is alive and well in Canada. I believe they are more interested in your motives to emigrate and you ability to be a productive member of Canadian society, so go for it.
Oh, and quit smoking if it has only been a year or so. You will be glad you did!

i m a 54 year old woman. six years ago i was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. i was given 6 to 8 months. i'm still here with prayers and a good mental attitude. (and numerous surgeries, chemo, radiation etc.)

if i was a patient coming to see you it would not be a pleasant visit. a non smoker will pick up on your smoking, especially if u are a heavy smoker

i was up to 2 packs a day. i quit 6 years before i was diagnosed. quit now. it really does not look well for someone who is supposed to heal people standing outside and smoking.

good luck in your new adventure.

It doesn't matter if you smoke or not. The medical exam is to determine whether you have any communicable diseases like tuberculosis, diptheria or hepatitis. If you work in the service industry or serve the public in any capacity, ie. a chef or nurse, you could unknowingly infect someone with for instance TB and not even be aware you are a carrier of that illness. So if you have no infectious diseases, you'll be okay.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Smokers live an average of 8 years less than non-smokers.
