if the car is registered to you, your insurance company will have to add your name to your mom's policy if you add the car. The finance company will require your name on the insurance. The best thing to do is get your own policy with the same company your mom has...you should still get a good rate because you have been a listed driver and you should get a discount for more than one car in the household. Check with your insurance company though.

Be careful! With Progressive, my car was only in my name and insured under my dad's name. Even though I was listed on the policy, we found out that if there ever happened to be an accident that I was at fault then they would not pay to have my car repaired. We didn't find out until I switched to my own Progressive policy and we had it insured that way for 3 years. They said that because I was not the policy holder then legally they would not have to be held responsible for damages to a car that was not in my dad's name. Maybe that is just Progressive's policy but I would make sure if I were you.

It depends on the insurance company, but for most of them, yes. However, if you are over 25, they likely won't keep on her insurance if you get your own car.
I'd call the insurance company and ask them. They won't boot you off the policy for asking a question.

Yes, you can. I did it in college. My mother was a co-signor,but when I graduated and went to work in my field, I bought another car. This time in my name only. She paid the insurance until I was stable. It would probably also depend on the state you're in and who your insurance is through.
