Everybody has E. coli in their body right now. It is normally harbored in the GI system and it is the number one cause of Urinary Tract Infections. There are several strains of this bacteria. The particular one that we are hearing about in the news is an especially virulent strain called 0157:H7. It can cause hemolytic uremic syndrome which can cause kidney failure and death. This particular strain is most often found in the GI systems of cows. Some people can carry this strain as well. But I'd rather blame the cows.
