I have travelled in 20 countries and uk food is fine.

There is a very competetive and sophisticated resturant scene.

Ethnic food is quite authentic eg Indian, chinese, thai. Some say that uk indian food is the the most authentic outside of the indian continent!

Sure there is lots of cheap basic greasy food eg mcdonalds, burgers, and chips (thick fries) but that no different from america.

You get what you pay for.

Service is great but you must respect the cultural differences - when english people dine out its a relaxed social occasion and so you wont be served as quickly as in america. Plates will not be cleared from your table until everyone has finished eating - its considered bad manners.

Enjoy the differences :)

England in general has had a bad reputation when it comes to food, but the times I've been in London (and now that I'm here long term) I haven't really encountered that. There's a wide variety of options since its such an international place, and that competition has probably helped improve the quality of the food around here.

Just try living in a place that is made up of mostly one culture, like Milan for example. The food there for the most part is positively aweful as everybody is bored with what they eat but have little outside influence to help them imporve.

I absolutely loved all the neat little resturants in London. I wouldnt say that the food is gross or unappealing at all. I suppose it all depends where you stay and what types of restuarants you frequent to. I stayed right off the west kensington tube. Great area as well. I was staying right next to the one of the Dalia Lamas and David Hanselhoffs homes! I would say do not knock the food until you try it, they actually having many americanized food places

Long ago, I had a hamburger at a London airport. Even the dogfood here in U.S. is better. But- my brother-in-law who had worked at a university - they made a super dinner that was formal for our whole family that was wonderful. There's lots of Indian Restaurants, oh those "special shrimp". My sister had to quickly run to the sink to pour some water for her daughter! Not use to spicy foods.

Well, I recently took a trip to london and though the food is sterotyped as being pretty bad...you can actually find some really great places.
they have many ethnic varieties of food...i suggest you try some indian restuants and go to local pubs, get soup, jack potatoes, and lastly my mom's favprite bangers and mash........YUM!
