Not to be horrible, but when I go out to a nice place with hubby, I like the atmosphere to be relaxing and soothing. It drives me nuts to pay L200.00 for a meal which I can't enjoy because someone elses child is screaming / running around / causing a fuss.

I find smoking much less offensive / invasive, and restaurants have 'no smoking' sections...

I think it's a good idea. I am not sure how many restaurants would be open to that.

I have 2 daughters, 5 & 8, and they have been going to restaurants since they were weeks old. We have taught them how to be polite and cordial in a public setting. I have a zero tolerance policy on being excessivly loud in restaurants. Too bad more parents don't share my love of well behaved children.

Absolutely! I'm with you all the way on this. I have 2 children that I love more then life itself and having a nice peaceful evening without someones child screaming their head off or making a complete mess has nothing to do with whether or not I like children. Just like smokers should be respectful of non smokers, people with screaming kids should be respectful of those around them. No one is saying to not bring children to a restaurant but people who want to go out to get away from crying kids should have that opportunity.

I work in a restaurant, and I agree with you 100%, but all the servers would be fighting to work in that section!! People that can't control their kids drive me nuts. I just love when people let their kids run around the restaurant or even around their tables. That's why I love the servers that will purposely bump into or knock the little brats over!

I'm sure there are upscale places where people don't normally take children. Or go later in the evening when there is less chance that many would have their children out. I agree, it's hard to relax and enjoy your meal if there are children screaming or their running around bumping into other patrons.

I am a Mother, and I completely agree with you! It never fails, when hubby and I get a night out alone, we always get seated next to a family or a family gets seated by us. I wish restaurant personal would have the decency to respect those dining with out children, especially when the meal is going to cost more then $50. I highly doubt we'll ever see a "no children" section though. ;)

I say maybe for the most part in upscale restaurants. Only because most parents let their kids scream and run around. The only bad thing is that the few well behaved kids get punished. The section should also ban the parents who have unruly kids or can not behave themselves.

YES !!!!!!!

Until the parents of badly behaved children ( the ones who scream, shout, run around and generally cause pain and suffering) learn to control the little devils then absolutely! Why should we suffer just because the parents want a night out and cannot be asked to get a childminder? If they want to go out then they can darn well wait till either the kid grows up or leaves home... either way, they should have thought about the social ramifications of children before they embarked on the horizontal wild thing.....

Misery does not love company!

NOTE TO LIBERAL PARENTS.... ITS NOT CUTE NOR IS IT SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE TO HAVE YOUR LITTLE URCHINS OUT IN PUBLIC IF YOU CANNOT CONTROL THEM... WE PUT DOWN PROBLEM PETS... WHY NOT PROBLEM KIDS?

I am sick to death of having to endure this form of torture in restaurants and in other public arena's... even worse then restaurants is having to fly Long haul with the little dears... its a good thing that guns are forbidden on airliners!

Yes. It cost way too much to eat out to be disrupted by out of control kids. They should make their parents pay for everyone Else's meal if the kids are running wild. The obvious exception would be McDonald's type places, and restaurants aimed towards family.

Yes. There should be a "No Children" section in the restaurants you have described. You should complain to the management and suggest they set up a "No Children" section. Maybe at least they will they will give you a free meal, which of course is small compensation.

Restaurants should ban intolerable brats. I can't stand it when parents are unable to control their own kids!! They should stay at home..or have the decency to leave their pouty, spoiled bratts at home. Why should the rest of us have to put up with the screaming, running around like they're in a zoo, and fighting. Children that misbehave are annoying..and its their parent's fault for not being able to discipline you.
