now that it has been realized that America is obese, steps are being taken to reduse people's fat intake.
but how many people really think the upcoming laws will have a major effect?

Of course it will have an effect, just not the effect the government is hopping for. What happened when alcohol was banned? People found other means to get it and were drinking it far more when it was illegal than when it was legal. What happend when cannabis and other drugs were banned? People found a way to obtain them and use them. And they are far more popular now that they are illegal than they ever were legal. I think the government doing this is wrong and over stepping their bounds. But thats just me

The short answer is no. The long answer is that culture cannot be regulated; that is the entity that causes Americans to be obese is not the fatty foods. We expect our problems to be solved through regulation, without any action on our part. Isn't banning a substance merely a stand in for the gross inaction and slothful indulgence that characterizes the consumerist society in which we find ourselves. In another example, we can ban alcohol; we cannot, nor perhaps should we, ban behaviors associated with a substance. We should instead strive to change our own lives, reject the culture of modern, instant gratification, and console ourselves with the fact that being obese is a high class problem.

Do you remember when Palm Oil was considered to be the worst thing, a heart attack waiting to happen? You know now Palm Oil is considered to be an acceptable way to remove trans fats from products. Look at Jenny Craig's Iced Gingerbread Men Cookies, no trans fat because they used Palm Oil! Butter used to be bad, now it's good. We all need to learn moderation, not how to say "Super size me" at 2 years old! The idea of trying to make a law to control what people eat is ludicrous, and won't work.

I actually think that it will probably never happen, but it would be great if it did. At first I thought...that would be horrible for New York, but then realized...(and I love french fries and am a New Yorker!) The idea that NY would lose business or tourists, or whatever because people can't get french fries is not going to happen. No one goes somewhere because they love the transfat. I hope they do...it would really help my need to eat healthy!

Prohibition with French Fries - Whoo Hoo. I'll bootleg the oil if you run through the potato patch and grab a bag full. Meet me in the hidden underground cellar for some illegal french frying!
