They spend lots of money to put things into a shop. You have to buy cleaning supplies for the place. Sanitize the bathrooms. Make sure the place looks neat and business like, get curlers, rollers, hair foam, & all the other nessecities for a great hair do. Then they have to buy chairs for people to sit in. Hair Dryers, and then they have to pay for electricity, water, and if you want people to watch television, you'll pay 4 cable. Its a lot of work running a beauty shop. So be wise about what your doing. Make sure its a choice that'll even be right in the long run.

This is a broad question to answer. If you a setting a shop up from scratch, it can cost thousands for equipment, product, etc.
In an established shop, depending on your business, expect to spend about $500 a month. Be sure to charge an amount equal to your time, and about the same as other shops in the area.
Charge to little and you will work way too hard in an already competattive business. Too expensive and you go out of business.
I love this work, but always had to work for another. I still have my licenses but switched to eye care work.
I am a Nationally Certified Para-Optometric Technician (CPOT) and make way more than I ever did in hair dressing. My hair dressing serves me well today. When I help women pickout glasses, I use my training in color and style to make the right choice for them.

every company needs to make a profit so they can keep their doors open, like a car dealer - they say 1000 dollars below invoice, right after they increase the sticker price by another say 6000 dollars then they go from there, getting back to the question i suppose they get their product for a few bucks each then have their sticker price at least 10 dollars more
