I read an article that says that the fossils of Crocodiles are identical to present-day Crocodiles. I know that evolution is suppose to be a slow process, but no change after 65 million years! The evolution theory has too many holes in it to be so widely accepted. Plus there is too much evidence against it.

What proof? There is no definitive proof that evolution exsists! You have to belive the evidence that people bring forth to you is true it can't be proven to be true so really it is no differnt from religion.

evolution is a continual process that never stops.

If your idea of it stoping because the species has no need to evolove any futher then what would make it stop? What and how would it be determined that a species is complete?

If evolution is true then how come there aren't half human half ape like creatures? Why would every human evolve at the same time? Wouldn't we be able to see every stage of human evolution?

Aviophage, so you are saying that people whose opinion differs about evolution are out of touch with reality? In other words people can't look at all the information presented to them and come to a conclusion different from yours!

You know the world also used to think that the earth revolved around the sun and guess what the world was wrong.

XIY you cant validate one theory with another theory. You can only validate a theory with facts.

Natural selection (the mechanism of evolution) can only retain or destroy a characteristic that already exists. What evolution needs to explain, however, is how those characteristics got there in the first place. Thus, it is said that mutations (random errors in copying the genetic code) in the DNA have produced the significant changes over time. Because of the complexity involved, however, it would take literally millions of tiny mutations to produce even a single new organ such as a heart. To think that such a complex organ could be constructed by such random events seems very odd. Furthermore, about 99.9% of mutations are either harmful or neutral (have no significant effect). Mutations simply cannot provide a sufficient mechanism to produce changes because mutations that are both not lethal and not neutral would need to be much more frequent.

Building up a resistance and mutating into a new form is two very different things. Your body builds up new resistances all the time, but that doesn't mean that it is mutating into a new species.

A gyno perhaps you should heed your own advice. Your correct not every thing written is true.

There is no definitive proof that evolution exists. A theory is not a fact. It can be a widely accepted idea, but in till it is proven it remains a theory. Evolution can not be proven therefore you must have faith in the evidence and the interpretation thereof. Making it a religion.

Ok now you cant have an adult conversation and call names because someone doesn't agree with you.

When have I mentioned anything about the Bible? My standpoint is completly scientific.

Have you read any of the hundreds of articles that question the possibility of evolution?

As a matter of fact, many leading evolutionists have recognized the
essentially "religious" character of evolutionism. Even though they
themselves believe evolution to be true, they acknowledge the fact that
they _believe_ it! "Science", however, is not supposed to be something
one "believes." Science is knowledge -- that which can be demonstrated
and observed and repeated. Evolution cannot be proved, or even tested;
it can only be believed.

2006-09-28 09:07:57 · update #11

Don, your problem is you can't accept that millions of people out there have studied evolution and came to a different conclusion than yours. You argue for evolution as if it is a proven fact. When the fact is it is impossible to prove; therefore, it must believed and that my friend is religion.

2006-09-28 14:13:04 · update #12

You links do not lead me to any proof that evolution is a fact. They only lead me to the interpetation of evidence by a man or woman believed to be evolution. AGAIN evolution cannot be proven therefore it must be believed and that makes it a religion!

Natural selection deals with the adaptation within a species. The adaptation occurs using genetic material already existing, no new genetic material is introduced into the species. The species uses what is already in its genetic code to adapt.

For evolution from a simple organism to a more complex organism to occur, new genetic material, not previously existing, must be created. This makes natural selection a false argument for evolution.

2006-09-28 14:19:19 · update #14

Mutation as evidence. This is another false argument. Mutations in nature result from a loss of genetic material and is predominantly to the detriment of the species, not beneficial.

For evolution to occur from mutation, the creation of new genetic material is required and the mutation must be beneficial.

While loss of genetic material may result in a new trait that is not detrimental, it does not result from new genetic material leading to a more complex organism.

I may have more "holes" for you. Bees are from an evolutionary standpoint a newer adaptation then wasps. So why would being able to sting once and then dying like a honeybee be an improvement on a design of an older wasp that could sting as many times as it wants to?

Another "hole": deciduous trees are "newer" than coniferous trees. So going dormant all winter is an improvement on a design where the tree stays green year round? And what about what this means in terms of how trees spread from warm climates to colder climates. In cold climates like Alaska and Canada or at high altitudes you generally don't have deciduous trees but conifers.

The sharks design has not changed much in like 100 million years, so perfect was it's design to begin with. Evolutionists should question the validity of their own theory to gain a greater understanding of it. If religious people have questions about certain passages of The Bible then evolutions should have questions about different aspects of evolution.

You have been misinformed. What you have to understand is that as time passes, the world moves into new times and new things, and the human understanding must constantly be renewed. God makes all things new!

Beginning about 300 years ago, the human ability to reason brought about the Enlightenment, and with it the scientific revolution. For most people, the Enlightenment brought intellectual freedom and an opportunity to draw closer to a rational grasp of the reality in which we are immersed.

THESE PEOPLE ARE THE WINNERS.

There remained and still remain, however, a minority of people who do not understand the meaning, the power, the godliness and the beauty of that rational understanding, but instead find it frightening. These people prefer to remain with their incorrect understanding that in the past there were people who had a correct understanding of things that came from supernatural sources. These people insist that their faulty understanding of the older magical sources is the real understanding, and that those who have accepted the rational way of approaching reality must be wrong because modern people disagree with what the leaders of these regressive thinkers want their followers to believe.

THESE PEOPLE ARE THE LOSERS.

The winners win and the losers lose for the simple reason that REALITY IS WHAT REALITY IS, AND NO ONE'S WISHES TO THE CONTRARY MATTER AT ALL.

Evolution is a well understood process. The evidence for evolution is overwhelming, and all the winners accept the notion of evolution. Only the losers refuse to accept it.

Here is a web site that is easy to understand that explains in simple terms why the notion of Evolution describes reality correctly.

http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evosite/evohome.html

From this you will learn why the Godly, sane approach to reality is to accept the fact that Evolution explains part of the mystery of how God creates his creation, and why being afraid to accept the notion of Evolution is ungodly and based on irrational fears.

Please save your fear for fearing ("revering") God, and see if you can outgrow fearing reality. Leave the LOSERS behind, and become a WINNER. Relax, and let the Holy Spirit carry you into the real world.

Please. Feel free to browse "www.talkorigins.org". They generally have all the answers to the "holes" in evolution although they tend to be scientifically detailed and some discussions can be challenging for a general educated layperson. As you read on, you will realize that there are no "holes" that negate the theory of evolution. There is some yet to be discovered evidence and some yet to be explained and proven processes but there is enough evidence to prove evolution to be a fact.

Are you a young earth creationist? Apparently not because you believe the world has been around for at least 65 million years. Creationist arguments are generally based on religion and the bible. If this is the case for your arguments, please try to understand the difference between faith, imagination, myths, make-believe, and reality. It's fine for you to play make-believe all you want but reality is there whether you want it to be or not.

Who says a species can't exist for 65 million years? The croc has been around a long, long time and is a very successful species. Only until Humans came along did Alligators (related) become endangered. What mutations could come to a croc that would improve its chances of survival?

Such organisms are called 'living fossils'. They include a number of life forms, such as horsetails, sharks, cockroaches, turtles and coelacanths, as well as crocodilians.

As a matter of fact, saying that they haven't changed at all is a bit misleading. Living fossils and their ancient counterparts are seldom EXACTLY alike even in their skeletons (for example, the fossil coelacanths are smaller than the modern ones), and of course life forms can also change quite a bit without their skeleton changing at all. And finally, even if they didn't change, all that shows is that their ecological niche has remained in place for a long time and no other life form has managed to usurpe it.

Living fossils in no way damage the theory of evolution. And as everyone who looks at the evidence knows, the existence of ANY fossilized remains is large evidence in FAVOR of evolution. And the fact that most of the fossils we find are of life forms that either do not exist today or have changed significantly only increases that. Honestly, intelligent design just can't stand up to any thorough investigation.

I'm sorry, but you're an idiot! There is sooooo much proof for evolution. Carbon dating, embroyological comparisons, DNA microarrays comparing genomes from different organisms, and let's not forget the Galapagos Island observations by Darwin. There. Is. Absolutely. Positively. NO. Evidence. Against. Evolution. Seriously, what bloody holes are you talking about? And don't tell me the Bible says it didn't go like that cause we all know Genesis is just a myth.

Evolution is not a tendency to progress.Animals evolve becuase thier enviroment pressures them to.Some species can stay the same way for millions of years, such as the celocanth and humans. Some crocodiles haven't evolved becuase they basically don't need too. However wiht global warming,I imagine that crocodiles that better withstand heat will survive, and evolve into a drought-resistant species of crocodile.

2006-09-28 13:13:58 · answer #6 · answered by That one guy 6 · 1 0

There are many species that have not evolved much for the simple reason that they have not experienced the enviromental pressure to do so. Sharks are another classic example.

So what?

The theory of natural selection says that an organism will evolve if there is pressure to do so. No pressure, no need to evolve.

Is that hard to understand?

P.S. You started out with a reasonable question about crocodiles, but then digressed into half-a-dozen followup questions that have nothing to do with your original topic. I could answer them ... but not all at the same time. No wonder you are so muddled.

Evolution is forced by pressures from the environment. When something adapts to its environment and that particular environment does not change significantly then the there is little or no pressure applied and the species can survive for eons without dramatic change. Of course you are wrong about crocodiles not changing. There were once 50 foot crocs who obviously could not maintain their niche in their environment and they died out... Thank goodness, could you see poor Erwin trying to cope with a 50 foot croc. 99% of all species that have ever lived on earth have passed into oblivion because it is very hard to adapt in time. Even Human Beings may pass if they do not seek to understand the world around them and adapt to the environments as it changes instead of reading old books and hoping the old tales will suffice. The Theory of evolution is no longer just a theory, it is a well understood process that has shown its incredible power even in relatively short periods of time Particularly in bacterial populations that have developed resistence to our current antibiotic which have only been around for 50+ years. No matter what modifications may be necessary to fine tune this process of Universal proportions, it will always explain things much more fully then any creationist expressions of God's imput. My personal experience shows evolution to be contrary to the creationist approach. I see Evolution revealing the incredible Majesty of a God who has initiated a Universe that ultimately has worked its way through so much, over such humbling lenghts of time, to see fit to creat me, and sustain me, and give my kind the wisdom to figure it all out. His wisdom and input are visible everyday in his miraculous handiwork. Why make it a bed time story that does not reveal the omnipotence of His Majesty in all of its detailed glories? I fear it is just to sustain writings that were penned when men knew of nothing more then what they could see with their eyes. They even got the progression of the Sun and planets wrong too. Or are we going to stick with at story as well? Be careful who is writing your articles, as they may just be as uninformed about crocodiles as the guy who wrote the one who prompted this question. Remeber it is not always true just because it is written.
