Given what we know about the human reproductive system, think about the claim that a VIRGIN was impregnated by a "god" which resulted in her giving birth to the son of "god". Now consider the claim for about 30 seconds..................................

Isn't it true that most normal, intelligent adults will agree that the belief in this type of birth is preposterous?

Hey "Layna": if you don't agree with it, then you CAN'T be a christian. Their whole belief system is based on this claim.

Hey "MrBugsy": Let's be serious for a minute.....You really believe in "angels" and that an angel impregnated a woman? What are you basing this bizzare claim on? (evidence? btw-your bible isn't evidence. If it was, there wouldn't be any other religions and there wouldn't be atheists)

Hey "Bob L": This wild claim hasn't been proven. Do you believe EVERY claim you hear? Why don't you believe in RA, the sun god? They have ancient writings too, which predate christianity by thousands of years.
Wake up! YOU haVE been BRAINWASHED.

hey "see the light": Please provide some evidence to support your wild claims. Also, what does free will have to do with this question? You people always use the "free will" thing out of context.
Do you realize that you have been brainwashed? Your whole life is a lie.

kujigafy: I always find it odd that you people will not answer a question if the answer contradicts your faith. You are right, the question is rhetorical....The only way you could know that is because you know the answer to my question is obviously "yes" if you are a normal, intelligent adult. Now, if you are sooooo secure in your catholic faith, why won't you just answer the question and then give your viewpoint? Why does it anger you so much? (more rhetorical questions...you and I both know the answer don't we?) It's because deep down inside, you know that you follow an irrational, illogical belief system that is based mainly on superstition and mythology. If you would like to debate me on the subject.....Please do....I will eat your lunch.

run_stand: No, sorry. Those were my words. Here were yours" The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you" ....what's the damn difference? The story is ludicrous either way you look at it. What makes you think you can quote scripture and your crazy belief will all the sudden look rational? Whether it was god, angels, devils or hobgoblins.....it's nonsense.

mama bear: even if it was possible....how can you claim your "god" caused it? How about allah?, Ra the sun god?, zeus? invisible ducks?

The concept could have been stolen from the earlier religion called Mithra-ism. This 'Deity" was born of a virgin and crucified to rise from the dead. Guess what, his birthday was Dec. 25th.

My question to you is... "Where does it state that God impregnated a VIRGIN in the Bible?" It really doesn't, RIGHT!

What it said is God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. Then the angel mentions that she will become pregnant (conceived) and that she should name him Jesus.
Then Mary ask the one question "But how can I have a baby? I am a virgin.
The angel replied, The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.

Let me mention something that may stir your intelligent.
If you know what the Holy Trinity is, then you know that it is God in three individual person: The Father, The Son, & Holy Spirit... like you for example.
You are a Man but yet three individual
1) If you're married... You are a Husband to a Wife
2) If you have a son... You are a Father to a Son
3) If you have a Siblings... You are Brother to a Sister / Brother
Three individual who act differently to three different relationship. This can also apply to Friends

So if God created you in his imagine then you are unigue in every aspect of the word... for there is no one exactly like you in every way from your hair to your DNA.

Yet you are given the possibly of creating life yourself and from your children to their children and so on. The thing is... LIFE doesn't stop until God makes it stop... but he doesn't

It's true that most people will agree that something created this world and that things happen for a reason that can't be explained. So the only answer a person come up with is "There must be a GOD!"

I've even hear people use God's name when they're pissed-off or at lost for words e.g.

"***-dam-it", "God-Bless You", "As God is my witness", May God strike me death" and my favorite one that people say "I Swear to God I will kick your butt" (some other word used instead of butt)

I would gamble that no another word than "God" can be used in those sentence.

NEWS FLASH...

There has been some serious thinking on this very question by geneticists and biologists alike, as well as religious scholars and anti-religious scholars. The consensus is, it is ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY POSSIBLE for a woman to concieve without sexual activity, given one very specific condition.

The woman in question would actually be a male, with an extra X gene. His/her physiology would be different, obviously, because of the genetic mix-up. While appearing to be female on the outside, tse (not a misspelling, it's a generic pronoun) could have both internal testicals and ovaries, and even a partial womb. Tse would be able to both fertilize and incubate their own fetus, and deliver the child at full term. Chances are very good that child would be MALE. Statistical work-ups done by these scientists, have suggested the likelihood of this happening to be about, well, once in the entire history of the earth.....

I'M REALLY NOT MAKING THIS UP. This is simply a biologist's explanation for a human case of parthenogenesis.

I'm a Christian, btw, and do believe in the Virgin conception and birth of Jesus Christ.

Preposterous in the limited way you think. Consider, God has the ability to create DNA material. What he would have created would have been the exact DNA material as Adam had, which means it would have dominant and overwhelmed Mary's DNA contribution. We know that when the Angels bred with human females, their DNA overwhelmed that of the human. I highly suspect that the fossilized skulls that are only found in the areas relatively near the theorized location of Eden, are really the skulls of the children of the fallen angels.

Because the contribution of DNA was the base form from which all humans derive their origins, Christ would have been a near copy of Adam, which means Red Man.

No Bible, just science. A good example would be a person from Africa, having a child with an African-American. The DNA of the African would overwhelm the American.

I don't agree that she was "impregnated by a god".

But I do believe that Mary was a virgin when she conceived Jesus.

Did you know that virgins these days can give birth without ever having sex? It's called human artificial insemination.

So if we mere humans have gotten around the need for an actual male presence in conception, why would God, the creator of ALL of the universe, be incapable of creating Jesus in his mother's womb without the need for a man?

God didn't have sex with Mary, THAT idea is preposterous. He only needs to say "Be" for a thing to exist.

If you believe in the supernatural, then why is a belief in a miracle birth so hard for you to accept? Is walking on water, feeding five thousand with two loaves of bread, healing the blind with just a word, or returning from the dead any harder to believe?

BTW, if Jesus did not return from the dead, then what made his cowardly disciples so brave that they were willing to be tortured to death rather than recount their story that they saw Jesus return from the grave? What good does fame or power do to a dead man?

You have only a small brain...His knowledge is far better than ours. You have a free will, this is all you can come up with. Most normal, intelligent adult? Please!

Everything is possible to God. There is nothing He cannot do except violate His own nature; so He will respect your choice for not accepting Him.

yes but spamandham has it right but forgot the +- part emphasis on the minus part. But it's also very important to note that Mary could be a virgin when she gave birth to Jesus but think also that she couldn't because she was married to Joseph and most of the time the marriage is consummated the night of the marriage, so think what you want of this posting.

Both Islam and Christian believes that Mary is a virgin.however only one party believe that Jesus is the son of God.May i point out that you are insulting both of this two religions? I don't think it is preposterous because I believe that God has the power to do so. and to have that kind of belief you must have faith in God. Which is obviously you dont?

It's called "faith", my friend. The definition of the word faith is: The evidence of things hoped for, the substance of things unseen. I hope this helps you. If you don't have "faith", you don't have anything. Everyone needs to have faith in something. I do consider myself a normal intelligent adult. I have faith in my God.
