Would especially appreciate brands that are nation wide... as there isn't that much of a selection in our local markets. Thanks in advance.

I'm a little new to the wine area. I have not had to much experience but i think some $10 tastes better then most $30 but i have not had any high dollar wines. I like Fish Eye and Four Corners (its normally $10 but it was on sale for $5 and i think its Winn-Dixie brand)

Merlot should be your choose of Red wine, as it is less complex in taste then Carbenet Savougion or spicy in the case of Shiraz. Generally, Australian wine are fairly priced compared to France or other region.

The safe bets are Waltham Estate 444, 555, 888

A hearty red that has a touch of sweetness is Zinfandel. (not to be confused with White Zinfandel) You should be able to find a popular brand such as Gallo at you local markets. Most Zinfandels are moderately priced, very drinkable wines that will go with your pastas, meat dishes, and cheese. Enjoy.

My suggestions is to get out there and try as many wines as you can, because I like a wine does not mean your going to.That's how I got started.Plus you do not have to spend Lott's of money,to find a great wine. There's wine clubs on the Internet.Have a party, invite friends over and ask each one to bring a bottle of wine,no more than $10.00 to $15.00 dollars. When I go on Vacation,I checkout every wine store or liquor store, just to see if I can find something different. If you do not like the wine you can always use it for cooking.

Many people enjoy Blackstone Merlot which probably has a national distribution.

I'm not sure which state you live in...read the wine reviews and recommendations at the site below for more ideas.

PORT or PORTO

I prefer the GOULD CAMPBELL brand, 1977 or 1980 vintage.

Prepare to spend about $60-100 USD, which isn't that bad for the vintage. Of course you can go with a later vintage which would run about $25 USD.

You could try Lambrusco, an Italian variety. Its low alcohol equates to decent sweetness, and its light and sparkly nature would be a good start for anyone not wanting a hefty red wine.

I found a review at: http://www.wineloverspage.com/wineadvisor1/tswa050907.phtml

He recommends the Cella non-vintage Lambrusco Emilia at $4.99. Is that inexpensive, or what?!
