You are not a druggie... you are normal < well, as far as I know, anyhow lolol >

Those drugs are commonly prescribed after surgery.

If they are helping you, use them. If you feel you can deal with the pain without them, then try it.

Short term use of those drugs pose very minimal risk.

Good luck and feel better!

I felt that way too for a long time, but that went away because my pain meds are being prescribed by my doctor. I am in chronic pain for two ruptured discs in my lower back for about 3 years now and sometimes I take my pills and sometimes I am ok and skip a dose. You just had surgery and that I assume must be very painful, and I highly doubt that your doctor is going to give you something that is going to be bad for you. When it comes time for you to stop taking the pain meds you will need to drink alot of water and if you are the type of person who likes to be physically fit, start slowly like walking and you will sweat all the toxins out. Just keep drinking lots of water. Hope you get to feeling better soon. And don't worry so much. I take a total of 6 different kinds of meds a day: 2 being pain meds, 1 a muscle relaxant and the others are for anxiety.

If you are still in real pain from your surgery, taking your pain meds twice a day is pretty reasonable. And should not cause damage to your body. Just don't do any thing like driving etc.. if they make you sleepy. Most people need pain medications for up to 6 to 8 weeks after surgery. It depends on your pain threshold. Just don't take more than you need. And cut back on them as your pain diminishes. I doubt you will have any problem with addiction. And they should not cause any damage to your body. Your doctor will know when to stop prescribing them for you.
Take care ans get well.

As long as your taking it the way your supposed to all will be fine. I have been taking vicodin and percocet, and darvocet now since May due to some surgeries. Addidction is a big and real chance, but if your in pain take the meds, just try to limit it if you can, it sucks trying to withdrawl from it. Good Luck!

Hmm..sounds like you should talk to your doctor. Also, are you aware that both of these drugs are HIGHLY addictive. They are both opiads, they will both build a tolerance, and are again both addictive. But it is very likely you need them to control the pain if you had surgury...you should probably talk to your doctor about your concerns and how to start cutting them back.

Good Luck, and sorry to hear about your surgery.

If you are taking the druga as prescribed by your surgon, and you need them to function, then you ar enot doing anything wrong. ?You could try going further and further between doses, but after surgery, it is important to move around and if the pain won't let you do that, then you need the drugs.

Talk to your doctor about non-narcotic alternatives if you are worried.
