Depending on the health of your hair it is about average to get it trimmed about every 6-10 wks. If your hair is more dry & badly damaged it may need a trim every 4-6 weeks.
The hair normally grows 1/2 in.- 5/8 in. a mo., if you only trim 1/4 in. every 6-10 weeks you will still gain length. If you get a trim every 4 weeks and have 1/2" cut off you will NOT grow length because you will be cutting what you gained for the mo.
You can also keep your hair healthy by using good quality products and stay away from over-the-counter chemically (they are extremely damaging) If you use a good moisturizing shampoo, conditioner and leave-in-conditioner your hair should be healthy. When you go using store colors, perms and bleaches that is where you can run into problems that cause major damage and breakage to the hair.
Good Luck,
Stylist of 9 yrs.

Yes. I just cut my hair once a month. Since I get my hair done approx. ever 2-3 weeks. I schedule a trim once a month.
Triming your hair, actually helps your hair grow. If you regularly trim you won't notice much difference in length after a trim. Its when you avoid trimming for a long time and then you have lots of split ends that need to be cut that you notice a change. So trim regularly and avoid that all together.

My hair is about bra length, but I only get it trimmed every 6 months to keep the ends tidy. My hair grows about 4 inches or so a year, that's quite slow I believe. I think we are all different and your hair will grow at the rate it wants to grow at, no matter what you do.

You need to get the split ends off if you really want your hair to grow. The small amount that you would get trimmed off will help your hair look and grow better. Healthy hair is better than ragged looking hair if you don't cut it.
