A retiree at my company had a heart attack. I assume that the family is having some financial problems paying for the health care...so to raise money for her health care, they're having a "FRIED CHICKEN DINNER". I'm all for helping out, but c'mon...I thought this was some kind of joke, but it's really true.

I think I'll just donate the $15 and pass on the fried chicken dinner so they don't have a similar dinner in my honor one day.

The planners are probably thinking of a quick meal to serve to get the dinner plans rolling for the benefit and not even considering the meal health wise. I understand the concern.

You may want to consider going just to support the retiree and her family in what they are going through even though you plan on giving regardless... and just eat a side dish or salad.

Hope it all works out for them.

If nothing its atleast ironic ;-)

As for making a donation and passing on the dinner, good for you, its a good idea and all but unless all that chicken and supplies are donated also the costs would out way the procieds.

It makes sense.

Fried chicken is cheap and easy to make, and it will draw more contributors than a Whole Wheat Pasta and Vegetable Salad Dinner.

Go ahead and donate.

What a sad but true twist to the fact that some folks just don't get it. I hope the person they are dontating to doesn't have to eat the fried chicken!

I'm a cardiac survivor. People can be so ignorant (and blind) that it eventually kills them.... too early.

What's worse is watching parents do the weekly shopping. It's "OK" for them to kill themselves... They're adults. But the stuff they buy is very scary.... and the little ones have no idea they're being poisoned and brainwashed.

wow...maybe suggest that they turn it into a broiled, baked, sauteed, bbq'd chicken dinner??? Make the donation and go eat something healthy...at least their empathy is in the right place...
