I don't know...Snoop Dog has gotten pretty far speaking his own lingo. I don't understand that and I certainly don't understand him either. Go figure...

I agree that speaking intelligently and in an educated manner is important. However, as an old fart, I have seen really ignorant sociopaths do much better than intelligent and educated competent individuals. The sociopaths (people with Antisocial Personality Disorder per DSM-IV-TR manual) usually win in life, and not because of necessarily speaking well.

No, you're not the only one who would. Personally I believe that having the proper manners and the proper knowledge of the use of words can improve your status in society. However, coming from a place that didn't appreciated this matter I also believe in staying true to yourself and respect your origins. It's an essential way to live, acting one way around a certain group--and then changing according to the group of people you're with.

Unfortunately, though a great many of us believe as you do, we are not in the position to help anyone "get farther". Somehow, (at least in my experience) the illiterate manage to grab those positions.
