This is in response to "How to ask a man for a date" I posted earlier.
He doesn't wear a ring....how can I safely ask him out for a drink if I don't even know his marital status....I hate to be presumptuous and I am so afraid of rejection and looking stupid......

I would engage in conversation and suggest that you would like to talk to him more, that he was really interesting for example and see if he returns the interest.
I wouldn't ask a man out until I knew him well enough to know his marital status, you certainly can be available and if he is interested he will let you know.
When you find out he isn't married or committed then ask. It isn't like that is a lot of information to obtain a conversation of ten minutes should let you know where he stands.

Lay the guilt trip down. Tell him you've been hurt in the past by guys saying they were single and available, but they were married instead. You'd like to have a drink with him but hope he is telling you the truth about his marital status. You have now set the ground rules, and the message is, if he is lying, he bears all the responsibility.

Can you ask him to come with a group of people from work or something? It is great way to get info (like marital status) without seeming desperate. Then if the group thing falls flat it is neither person's fault, less rejection that way.

Just start out as a friendly smile, than as you get talking, ask him if he has a girlfriend or if he's married. If not then persue. Good luck!

Perhaps you could hint around about a significant other. If he is interested he might catch on and offer that information.

if you are interested enough to ask him out ask him if he is married
you don't want to find out later on he has a wife
cause if he is a player... he'll play around on you too

Just ask him if he's married. If he hesitates to answer or tries to avoid the question.........chances are he's married!

dont feel badly . he will be happy that he is still attractive. if he is married he will say so. and if hes a nice guy he will be polite about it.

IN A JOKING WAY TELL HIM YOU'D ASK HIM OUT IF HE WAS FREE. THEN TAKE IT FROM THERE WITH HIS ANSWER. GOOD LUCK.
