Yes . without spending time looking for the right book . I believe it is a protetive stone to guard against evil. its either good for only one yeas wearing or unless it cracks or spits meaning that it has done it job and you need to replace it to have continued protection.

If you are wearing a stone for a spiritual purpose, it's good to have the stone touching your skin, instead of encased completely in the setting (often silver.) I've heard it said that turquoise is a good stone for wearing at the throat.
The intention of the wearer is very important when any stone is worn for a spiritual purpose. So is respect for the tradition which uses the stone for spiritual purposes.
