Your complaint is a common one; not only are the prices disgustingly high, but the puppies and kittens who are sold there are very often in bad shape, physically and socially.
Many states are implimenting laws that will more closely monitor facilities and rescue groups that sell or adopt out dogs and cats. Often times these "pet shops" seperate puppies and kittens from Mom at times when they can't fight infections they're exposed to at high-volume kennels, they're not properly socialized and therefor have behavioral issues later in life, and many times don't receive the veterinary care that we consider fundamental for our pets. They go to new homes with fleas, intestinal parasites, mites and other unappealing and sometimes unhealthy problems.
Unfortunately, until the states crack down a little harder on the PetLand stores, there's little we can do to get them into trouble. One thing we can do is avoid buying anything from them at any cost - and spread the word to anyone considering adopting a new pet - hopefully a hit in business will encourage them to clean up their act.

Don't buy a pup from Petland. Even go as far as not buying any products that they sell. They buy puppies from puppy mills and most of the pups are sick and will die or have many genetic defects. They charge the high prices because of the stupid people who are willing to pay them. Buy from a breeder. You will get a much better puppy.

Petland is a business and cares more for money than they do pets. Thats why its better to buy from a breeder and get supplies from stores that do not sell pets. Plus, they do sell alot of sick pets. All they care about is the bottom line.

Many people feel that they get better quality with higher prices or they like to brag on how much they spent.

They mark up their pet price 100%. WHY? B/c they have high overhead. If you don't wanna pay that price-then go straight to the breeder.

They are crooks. ITs all about the corporate almighty buck. Find someone that actually cares about their animals to buy from.
