First you need to prove to them that you are responsible to care for a dog. Are you willing to feed it walk it, clean up all the pee and poop. Train it. That is what a pet owner has to do, every day for the rest of its life. It is not a toy you play with until it gets a little bigger and then toss aside for a new puppy.

Well, depending how old you are, you may be able to convince them that it would be a good learning experience for you, and that you're ready for more responsibility. And tell them that you can get one from your local animal shelter, it will already have all of its shots, and be spayed/neutered and it won't cost anything. But just be sure that you are really ready for the responsibility... dogs take a lot of patience and time to train. Good Luck.

Well, your parents are going crazy because all you do is whine, (and if you don't live with your parents, why are you reading this page?) so here's the quickest way, stop whining and quit bugging them! They might feel more relieved and maybe you will get a dog as a gift. Just to be on the safe side, only ask your parents occasionally and when they're in a good mood!
Make sure your parent's know you can handle a dog, maybe borrow your friends dog for a week and take care of it, or pet sit for a neighbor. They might see that there is still hope for you yet!
Make sure you know what kind of dog you want and how to take care of it.

Talk about adopting a dog, make sure you understand everything about that dog!
Make a journal and right EVERYthing you know about dogs in it then give it to your parents to look at.
If you have other pets take care of them even better then that will show your responsible.

Dogs need to be trained, so give it a few lessons! Or take it to a local training place. Also, dogs can get sick and the vet bills can be very expensive. Make sure your parents and you know this before you consider getting a dog.
Find out your parents' objections and overcome them. Point out the benefits that the dog can bring to your family.
Talk to your parents. Be honest about your intentions. Let them know that you are definitely old enough to handle the responsibility of owning a pet. Learn how to house-train a dog so that it will not poop in the house. Books on the subject can be found and borrowed free from your local library.
Take a friend or relative's dog for a weekend as a "test run" to show your parents that you are ready for the responsibility.
Offer to help pay for the dog food by doing extra chores or contributing some of your pocket money.

If your parents, after all you have done to convince your parents that you are responsible enough to have a dog and really take care of it, still decide that they don't want to or cannot have a dog, here are some more things you can do:
You can find out where the animal shelters are in your neighborhood and go volunteer there to help take care of some homeless dogs.
You can find out if there are elderly neighbors who have dogs and cannot walk them regularly. You could volunteer to walk their dogs for them.
Dogs, especially puppies, need a lot of things to chew on while they are developing their teeth. You can also find suggestions on how to keep your dog from chewing your shoes and clothes. You must be prepared to get them rawhide or bones to chew.
Dogs need regular exercise. You will have to sacrifice some of your personal time with friends or hobbies to walk your dog. It may help to convince your parents that you are willing to do this if you announce daily that you are now going for a 'pretend walk' with your dog so they believe you. You will have to do this regularly once the dog gets there, and more than once a day.
Dogs cannot be left behind while the family goes on vacation. If you leave for a family vacation, you must either find a friend to take care of your dog while you are gone or take the dog to a kennel. You should find a friend whose parents are willing to do this, or you should find a kennel. Find out how much it costs to board your dog and prepare to save up some money so you can be responsible for your dog's care.

You should really read at least one book on the proper care of dogs before you go any further. Dogs are real living creatures who have needs similar to those of children.
There are laws that state that you must pick up the poop from your dog. Decide if you are willing and able to do this

well how i persuade my mom was i asked her if we could just look at the puppies and she said... "fine, but were not buying one." well we went to the puppy store and look at a toy poodle, but it was to calm. so... we asked for the little short haired Maltese that was sitting in the corner. the reason why we asked for that little Maltese was because when i walked by it it jumped on its cage, but when anyone else walked by he would just lye down. we took him into the pen where he was running into the walls like crazy. so as it was my mom couldn't resist putting him back into that little cage so we paid for him and TOOK OFF! i was so happy but daddy wasn't but in the middle of the night at 2:00 in the morning he woke me up and said here's your Christmas present only if we call him buddy.

well now we've had him for two years and were as happy as can be. a family!
