I just did a necropsy (autopsy in dog- world) on a large breed dog that died because he was given corn on the cob to eat. He swollowed the cob in chunks that got stuck in his colon and caused him to become septic and die.
His owners thought he would be fine because their other dog never had a problem with it.
I say it over and over, if pet owners would keep their dogs on a leash, vaccinate them, and only feed them dog food, I'd be out of a job.
Get your pet to the vet as soon as possible. If you have an emergency vet in your area, take him there.

I used to give the big dogs corn on the cob. They'd eat it off and play with the cob. If they swallowed the cob it could cause problems. I'd watch closely and don't put off a call or trip to the vet if it worsens. The corn may have had nothing to do with it...

I give my 2 dogs corn on the cob all the time, they love it and have had no problems after eating it. I would suggest you take your dog to a vet.

dogs cant digest corn very well. Please bring your dog to the vet immediately. Tell the vet what happened, but please dont feed your dog corn on the cob in the future. Also when you buy the dogs food, make sure that corn is NOT the main ingredient. You want to find something with chicken or lamb as the main ingredient.

Please all the emergency clinic and talk to the vet, and ask if it's okay to wait and see how he does. He may get a blockage and that means surgery. kiwi mum you better read the question again. Yes eating corn is okay, however this dog ate a corn COB about 10cm. Dogs should not eat corn cobs, he may get a blockage.

Corn cobs are one of the most common causes of intestinal obstruction in dogs. I have assisted in many surgeries to remove them. They corn is not the problem. The cob will not digest in their stomach and will block their intestines. If he is passing stool, he is probably not blocked. Dogs with an obstruction will vomit everything they eat. And they will eventually die if not treated.

Well if he's bleeding then I would take him to the vet. I have given my dog the cob before and she just used it as a chew toy, nothing bad happened. I would do it again if it made him sick

If you dog has blood in his stool, it's a pretty good quess that he hasn't been able to digest and pass the treat. One or two days wouldn't scare me but anything over that would make me take him to the vet for an x-ray. internal bleeding is just that! internal bleeding and should be looked at. I hope this helps.
