From what I have seen on some internet sites, this church could be described as a cult. There are reports that families are not to associate with other family members outside of the church, that there has been an instance in Whig members were ordered to burn printed materials they had received from the church. As well, there are reports of financial irregularities and alcoholism among the leadership.
Have a look at some of these websites before you get involved with this group.

The fundamental core of any Christian Church is the acceptance of Jesus as the Messiah. It's the added-on other activities which would make it a so-called cult, like handling snakes or drinking poison in a (vain) effort to prove your faith, and such things.

All Churches of God are cults.
So are all the other Christian denominations.
2 Cor.4:4 tells you who this God of this world is.
It is none other than Satan the Devil.

We have several Church of God around here in Illinois, and I believe they are Christian churches. Somewhat Charimatic, but still legitimate churches.

The name is not as important as what is preached. Salvation is a sovereign free gift of God. All are dead in sin and unless God makes them alive they remain dead spiritually. Salvation is in Christ alone by faith alone. Test these things with The Word of God

It's a descendant church of Gardner Ted Armstrong's Church of God.
I'm glad you asked the question.
I was very outdated on Armstrong and briefing up for your question helped me.
Didn't know he died that long ago.
Well, I know this doesn't answer your question. but your question helped to answer future questions I'll encounter.
