Diphenhydramine, better known as Benadryl, is an antihistamine taken for allergies that makes you sleepy. That is what's in the PM and things like NyQuil that put you out. People that have a higher tolerance for meds may find it doesn't help and need something stronger. There is a new drug called Rozerem for insomnia that works great and isn't habit forming. If that's what you're after, talk to your doc. Sweet dreams!

Any of the over-the-counter pain relievers that have a P.M. with them has the generic of Benadryl, diphenhydramine. Usually 25mg. per tablet or capsule. I hope this helps.

It has never affected me that way,,,,, never makes me sleepy at all.
