It's a tiny conversation. One is a question, and the other, is the reply.

I think that you're referring to the way "read" is pronounced differently, I too have always thought that was weird. It seems wrong, but it's not.

" did u read that book ?" here the person is referring to one particular book. & he is using the the word book for the first time. " yes, i have read the book " here the person who is answering is referring to the same book. so, he uses "the "the answer can be " yes, i have read that book " also.or " yes, i have. "or "yes, i did "

One is a question and the other is an answer. But the thing is that the grammar is not correct in the answer. The answer should be: Yes I did.
