I agree with books are cool.

Sometimes teens will like getting the paycheck so much that they will try to work more. This is when homework becomes a problem. It is up to their parents to ensure that they are not working too much. Parents can still put boundaries on how much the teen works because school still teaches them a lot more and provides them with better opportunities.

Teens who are working are off the street and out of trouble.
Teens who are working are being productive members of society
Teens who are working are responsible.
Teens who are working are building skill and learning a business.

Sometimes teen working can cause their grades to fall because they don't get their homework done or have enough time to study.

positive: keeps prices low for the rest of us since they generally get paid low wages;
builds self esteem;
provides independence since they no longer have to rely 100% on the generousity of their parents.

cons: takes time away from hanging out with friends (can't be a kid any longer);
possibly causes a teen to quit other extra-curricular activities (sports, band, dance, etc);
takes away from studying;
MAY introduce teen to some unsavory people.
