One can have an allergic reaction to anything.
This reaction is caused by the bodies own response to whatever substance.
In order to have a reaction the person must first have been exposed to the offending substance once.
For whatever reason the body later recognizes something in it as foreign. In order to protect itself a histamine reaction begins to fight the intruder!
This is why the first treatment is an antihistamine.
My stepmother was visiting here one summer. We had strawberry short cake. She had eaten strawberries all of her life. On that day had an anyphlactic reaction to them and had to be rushed to an emergency dept.
Sometimes the offending substance is never identified.

An Allergen is a protein substance that stimulates an allergic reaction. A lot of proteins in foods can be allergens from wheat to milk to peanuts. I don't think there is a food that does not cause an allergic reaction in someone somewhere.
