let's take Christ out of the picture for this question. I'm talking to YOU! as an individual, would YOU sacrifice YOUR life, so i can live? what about some of your enemies? hell, I'll even down tone that to "would you die for people you 'disagree' with?
again, i want no mention of the greatness of God, Jesus, or anyone else. just YOUR honest opinion!

this cynical question has a point to it...

Yes, I believe that I would, because I believe that every human being, no matter what they do, say or think, has value.

You are asking for an ultimate sacrifice. How about dying to self in small amount? Would you stop to help someone on the way home from a long day at work when the big game has already started? Would you wake up early to gas up your spouse's car so they don't have to rush when they get up? Would you take the time to actually remember someone else in prayer? Would you take time out of your day to actually pray?

This is how we lay down our life for our friends every day. Do you do this? Freely or begrudgingly? The answer to these questions might point to the answer to your question about the ultimate sacrifice.

Peace,

MoP

Its hard to say, if u were say drowning in a lake id probably neglect my own life in an attempt to save you. And if it was a mass of people who were going to die unless I gave my life id do it. But the question would I die just for some random guy just for no good reason other then the fact that you want me to. Probably not.

I'm not sure if I could. I would want to though if it was necessary and throughout history this is exactly what great Saints did. Example: St. Maximilian Kolby in Auschwitz.

Even if we are good Internet buddies, sorry, but no. I would expect the same from you. Now lets just hope there's never a situation where we have to test this out!

The virtue of selfishness, And push of self preservation that is inside all of us would stop all the posers that say that they will sacrifice their lives for a stranger's. In the end they would find a (totally unrelated and vague) Bible verse, saying that they didn't have to do it.

No I wouldn't ..but I WOULD die for everyone I LOVE...
Hence Christ LOVES ALL because he Died for all ..even yet while I was a sinner and lover of myself and pleasing myself only. Now whats your POINT?

I couldn't say, honestly, what I would do in any given situation, hypothetically. Very easy to say what I would do sitting here in front of a computer. Faced with dire circumstances, I have no idea what I would do.

It was no sacrifice. Jesus was hunted down, arrested, tried, and executed.

Matthew 26:40
Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. "Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?" he asked Peter.

If he was a sacrifice then why keep watch?

No, probably not. I would die for my kids, my country and even for Christ but not for you. Better luck next time.
