My three year old loves cars and construction toys. She'll play wth barbies and her favorite princess is Cinderella, but if you were to put a barbie and a car side by side she would grab the car. Is it confusing to let a little girl play with boys toys or is it too early for that to be a problem? I think it's fine for her to be interested in cars and fixing things, I was just trying to get some more input from other parents. I always seem to get strange looks when my daughter places her hot wheels on the counter at the store.

She loves girl things too, like dresses and makeup. I'm not trying to make her a tomboy.

My daughter loved to pile her barbies in her Tonka dump trunk and drive them from place to place. Don't worry about it and let her play with what interests her.

I have a 6 month old, and she will have ample opportunity to play with both girl toys and boy toys. She may have a cooking set or whatever the family comes up with for her to play with (other girls a year older in the family) but if she wants to get a tool set, then it will probably happen.
I agree with some of the others in that it just makes her more rounded, and not necessarily a tom boy. She will be our little princess, but if she wants to keep up with the boys, its fine too!

There is no problem with that. I have two girls one 4 and one 5. And one likes girl stuff and the other likes squishy things. Gross. But she also says she wants to be a doctor. So, your child will play with watever she wants, and motor skills will develope for things she might want to do when she grows up. Mabey she will be an engeneer, or a sceintist. Jsut depends. But there is nothing wrong with her picking hot wheels over a barbie. (they will last longer) I am 24 and still have hot wheels that i play with in the tub. I also race cars for a living. Making good money.

That's perfectly fine! My daughter is a total tom boy. She would pick a mud puddle over makeup hands down! She has always played with cars and stuff. Even when she was a baby she was fascinated by anything with wheels. Boys can play with girl stuff too. Heck, my son is playing with a pink glow worm right now! If they like it, Idon't care who the toy is geared to. They like what they like. My daughter is starting to want her nails painted now that she's 4.

I played with dinosaurs, monsters and dragons all my childhood until 14 and that don't make any problem in the present day.
I hated Barbie or any doll, every time someone bring me a barbie or a doll as gift I throw them in a box, garbage or shave its head. Also if it was a set of Barbie with animals I take the animals and throw the Barbies in the garbage.Actually I still hate Barbie.

i think that you should let your child play with her choice of toys. When i was little i used to be such a tomboy and i loved getting dirty and watching car races and i still love football!! She will eventually grow out of it and she will start to love boys and makeup and i still do some boy things but i wouldnt call myself a girly girl. Plus i think its cute when little girls play with little boys toys. I dont really hang out with girly girls because they are more into makeup and all that crap than homework and school. Also i just asked my mom for advice too and she agrees that you shouldnt tell her what she should do that will only make her mad!! So i hope this helps u and your little girl.

I don't think it should be a problem to let little girls play with boy toys. I have a 3.5 and a 21 month old (both girls) and at least half their toys are cars , truck, tools, etc.. I think letting kids play with whatever they want to (as long as they are safe), they are learning also. I just think it is good for them to explore different things expecially at that age. well i hope this and every answer helps you.. Honey don't sweat it.

Hey since when did it become tabo for girls to like cars? Didn't you go for your hubby because he cool wheels? As for the construction toys she needs to learn how to use them incase she marries a city bot who can't fix a broken toy or a leaking sink. If you keep getting funny looks when she puts her hot wheels on the check out go to a different store but tell them why you're changing stores first.

Of course I would let my daughter play with boy toys. She does all the time. It sounds like she is a lot like your daughter. She loves make-up, jewelry, cute clothes and yet will play all boy stuff with her brothers. I would encourage her to play with anything she wants. She may be one of those type A personalities that will be good at pretty much everything. Great news.

Well..... Not only does my daughter play with "boy" toys but my boys play with her "girl" toys too. I wouldn't worry about what kind of toys she's playing with. As long as she's using her imagination, that's what's important. Let her play with what ever she wants. Growing up all I had to play with was boys and their toys and I'm normal (sort of LOL ; )
(My husband doesn't like it, but if I'm painting my daughters finger nails (she's 6) my son wants his done too (he's 4) so I will paint his too. I compromised a little. Now I only paint one on each hand and he's satisfied with that. I don't stress about that kind of stuff. They are who they are and I'll love them regardless)

Both my daughters played with Match Box cars and mostly every boy toy there was. They are both married now with children of their own and very feminine. Ignore other people, you might think other people are looking strange at you maybe because you feel a little odd when she pulls out her cars. Its perfectly normal. Don't worry.
